Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

    Fairly Good Experience
We need to take a boat to Kulangsu. When we arrived there were 5 historic places we could go to, we had a tour guide and the experience was great. However, you need to walk a lot and for all the places you need to buy tickets because the place is quite big and you need a lot of time spent on it. So don't buy all the ticket.

When we went in July 2021 they had a nice display for the Chinese Communist Party Centennial. The temple was nice and clean and we loved the turtle and lotus ponds. It was free to enter when we went but tricky to register via WeChat. Plan to spend about an hour or two here.

Unfortunately, access to the campus during CNY was not possible. (pity but understandable). However, the opportunity to walk all around the outer perimeter of the campus gave an excellent overview.

Like other major Chinese cities, Xiamen has a lively shopping street a.k.a. Zhongshan Road. At the Fujian city's historic downtown, the street is full of local eateries and souvenir shops. Beyond its touristy vibe, the rows of buildings along the street are impressive and worth a glance.

The fort is worth making a trip to either for the spectacular ocean views, the history and/or the giant cannon. Plan to spend about an hour or two here and make sure you check out everything as there are is good signs and posters but some of the interesting facts are a little hidden. You can get very close to the large cannon and even check out the ammunition that it use to blast off into the sea.

Price to enter for adults is 25 yuan and they have a show at 10:00 am and 4:00 pm.

The bathrooms are clean and are a great place to change before heading down to the nearby Baicheng Beach!

The way is a long seaside promenade with many exciting paths where we can walk just aside the sandy beach or on a platform bridge above the water. It makes it very nice walk both in day and night. Partly it is possible to ride a bike on it but i prefer walk.

We were there for the light show in the evening. Absolutely beautiful when all the buildings in the school village campus had their lights lit. The reflection on the Longzhou Pool made it even prettier.

We went to eMall and just walked across the street to get to the viewing deck of Yanwu Bridge. It was an awesome view of the Two Towers. There were not so many people and you can walk and just relax....

This park was within walking distance of the hotel I stayed in. And it's a really lovely area to get out and explore. It doesn't take a tremendous amount of time, maybe half an hour at most. However, from the area you just to see. Only the pagodas and other buildings that are on site but you also get some really great views of Xiamen. Overall very picturesque and a nice little detour.

This park is right near the former residence of Mr. Chen Jiageng. It's a huge park with much to see. Beautiful pavilions, museum, and memorial of Mr. Chen all located within this park. Being right by the beach made this a scenic spot and even in the hot summer day when we were there it was breezy enough for us to be comfortable.

We were dropped off here by our guide for a couple of hours on our own. It was like a maze with streets going all directions. One can easily get lost in these busy streets lined with colorful shops and restaurants. All very interesting to see. We did not eat there but there seemed to be lots of choices for those who are into local street foods. Make sure to use the public restrooms first before exploring.

Once you have passed the security check points at the main gates of the university there isn’t any waiting just a 1000m walk to the tunnel. Worth a look then head to the Fat Fat Horse for some craft beer.

This was the first bridge built between the island of Xiamen and the mainland into Jimei District. In the evening, the school village buildings will turn on all the lights, making this a lovely attraction. The Xiamen Bridge also put on a show of lights with changing colors during that time. Very pretty indeed.

Definitely the longest stairs I had walked to reach the top. People were saying that it is around 800 steps. Honestly, my legs were trembling before I reached the top. Needs to rest in between stairs to catch my breath. ha ha ha. . . Anyways, the effort was well worth it. Along the stairs was decorated with famous statues and dragons. Scenic view while going to as well as reaching the top. Big statue in honor of Wu Ben (medical saint) on top. Here you can light an incense and say your prayer. Take some photos as evidence that you really had reached the top. Fantastic view from there. Going down was less effort. Definitely bring some water with you and be prepared for the long journey on the stairs to reach the top. There were small shops selling food, drinks and souvenirs downhill. Definitely a must when in Xiamen. Climb while you can.

I am in Xiamen for 2020 C&D Xiamen Marathon. So this sculpture is an excellent motivator before the race. It proves that the annual marathon is an important for the city.
