Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- ReshOakland, CA28 contributionsThe staff were friendly. It was easy to catch an uber there and back. We got here early and glad we did. We got there at 8:00am/8:30am. I would recommend getting there at 7am or 7:30am right when it opens. It was very hot in the late afternoon. We spotted a sloth, agoutis, and a coati. It's a very kid-friendly hike and not too hard. Not stroller friendly, so best to use a backpack/hiking baby carrier for the little one. Bring water, bug spray, hat/shade. We had a wonderful time and the view of the city was beautiful. Make sure you climb the stairs at the viewpoint to get an even better view of the city.Written 4 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - marcy wcharlestown rhode island119 contributionsJust spent a week in Gamboa where we hiked and nature watched in this park. I highly recommend it and Gamboa for a beautiful and relaxing get- a -way. We relied on Augustin for rides to and from Gamboa/Tocumen Airport. He said he would do tours too. Save his number if you are planning to go to Gamboa. There are no Ubers in Gamboa once you get there so you need to make arrangements to get back to the city. Augustin's telephone number is 507 6376 8266. His car is clean and well maintained, and he is a good driver. The car fits 4 people.Written 18 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Robbie MHopkins, Belize1,638 contributionsGreat view at the mirador just off the road. A couple of KMs up the road is the entrance to the Sender La Cruz. Based on the reviews i was expecting something more difficult, but it wasnt far or difficult. Its rustic, so it was a bit muddy and slippery, so i wouldnt recommend it for older people or ones that have difficulty with balance. But for avid hikers it should be a breeze. Took about 40 minutes up, and another half hour back. Beautiful views. Great spot for selfies, and apparently for locals looking to make out.
Best of all it was free! You can park right there and just walk right up, no problem!
Unfortunately we didnt have time to explore the rest of the park. But i would go back again!Written 14 August 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Gourmet Adventu... TLondon, UK156 contributionsWe heard about the Camino De Cruces from a friend who went years ago and wanted to follow in their footsteps hiking from the park office to plantation road.
The hike is pointless and a waste of time and money. We saw some howler monkeys, which we also saw in Park Metropolitano. Aside from that, not much else.
GETTING TO THE STARTING POINT
- Most taxi drivers will not have heard about the ticket office.
- Googlemaps has it down as "Parque Nacional Camino de Cruces" but you are looking to spend between $13-16 for an Uber ride over. Our Uber driver got terribly lost. The start point and the ticket office is next to a 2-lane dual carriage way.
TICKETS
- Entrance to the park costs US$5 per person. Once you paid you won't get your money back.
THE HIKE
There is an EXTREMELY badly drawn out map with no real reference points in the ticket office. They will not provide you with any other maps.
The start of the walk is very much through the jungle. We went the day after some rains and it was very muddy. Be sure to wear sturdy hiking boots and long trousers.
THE PROBLEMS
Issues arose because of bad sign-posting. After initially seeing clear sign posts, these gradually disappeared about 1km into the walk. At one point (1hr into the hike) we came to a cross roads and it was completely unclear where the path was heading. Turns out the park management had not cleared the path for a while and did not bother informing us of this when we bought the tickets in the park office. Having followed (the wrong) path about 40 minutes longer, we came to a dead end and had to turn back.
Explaining this issue to the park management was futile. No refunds were offered despite the park having failed to maintain the paths and the sign posts.
Don't go, we had a wasted day in Panama.Written 15 November 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
