Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Jeff SCleveland, OH106 contributionsThe architecture is very intriguing as you pass by, so a venture was in order to see more detail. It's truly a magnificent feat to see more of the features of this tall cathedral. Truly worth exploring and seeing.Written 6 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Jeff SCleveland, OH106 contributionsJust the thought that in the 1600s, they were able to remove and transport each and every stone of this baroque Mercedarian cathedral from its original location in the Old Quarter (first city of Panama) to the current location in Casco Viejo now, is overwhelming.
In addition, they brought the original roof rafters' structure along with the original wooden columns as well! Can you imagine the old-growth wood from centuries ago and they are still intact and holding this incredible cathedral's roof structure in place todayWritten 6 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Our favorite part was going up in the tower, the views were just breathtaking! The second floor of the church had an amazing display of nativities, from Jerusalem to a zoo and even a carnival. There are also paintings on display for sale. Not for the faint-hearted but the views are spectacular, I'd say a must do!Written 28 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sue MWilliamsburg, VA1,536 contributionsInteresting to see the remains of this 17th century church in the heart of the Old Town. It is known for the expansive unsupported flat arch in the interior.Written 7 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TualieVarese, Italy1,595 contributionsThis Spanish baroque retable is the main attraction of this church. There were legends surrounding that this golden retable dates from the times of Henry Morgan piracy days, which all proved fake; origins are from late XVIII century according to tests and records but indeed, it was covered with gold leaf in 1915, not much remained these days so now is just gold color painted.
Is marked outside the year 1675 and was founded by Augustinian friars. Absolutely worth a visit, as well as the other five churches of this old colonial quarter (called it Casco Viejo or San Felipe) they are different between each other.Written 22 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. While Delta, America, and drum role please United by far the worst domestic carrier in the U.S, Copa’s service is first class. From their in flight service meal, that’s right a meal for everyone not just for first class and I mean no pretzels or cookies here, to the gate agents and customer support on the phone it is such a refreshing feeling remembering how air travel used to be back in the day for airlines in the land of milk and honey. I highly recommend if you are going to take a vacation overseas check out Copa Airlines and compared them to our U.S carriers I’ll promise you you’ll be pleasantly surprised.Written 17 December 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Frank DSlidell, LA1,361 contributionsIn Casco Viejo (the old city) this is one of a number of places - especially churches, you will surely want to visit.
The beautiful little park surrounding Iglesia Santa Ana dates to the 1890s and is a spot where locals come to relax.
The lovely church was originally built in 1764, then destroyed by fire and rebuilt in 1864 and renovated in the 1900s.Written 27 March 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Apparently the area around the Basilica, is not recommended and you should not explore off the main road.Written 24 August 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
