We had a group of 23 of us join Chef and team. Was an absolutely fantastic day. The tour of the garden was great, then the food we cooked was delicious.

This was a really fun way to spend an evening and was a little different to the usual going out to a restaurant to eat.

We were picked up in a spacious air conditioned van and taken to the local Thai market where Mong gave us a fantastic tour of the market and was very informative and super interesting.

We were in a group of 6, 3 couples in total. We decided to pick a dish each and chose the last dish as a group which worked out really well.

We chose Phad Thai, Tom Ka Soup, Massaman Curry and a fried rice dish.

We then were taken back to the Smiley Cook Villa which is a beautiful and quaint little villa with a spacious and well set out cooking and dining area. We were given fresh ginger tea and cold bottled water as soon as we arrived and had chance to get to know our fellow students before getting started with the class.

Mong was a fantastic teacher and very entertaining chef. He took the time to explain everything fully to us and was open to answering any questions we had.

He was also extremely accommodating to dietary requirements of others in the group who were vegetarian/vegan. Also worth pointing out whilst you select 4 dishes as a group, you actually cook your own portion of each to your own liking and taste which Mong helps you with.

After cooking the 4 dishes we then sat down to eat as a group which was nice and then Mong prepared us a lovely dessert. The amount of food is great, you won’t leave with an empty belly for sure (doggy bags are provided if you can’t finish it all! )

Would highly recommended this experience and would definitely do it again if we visit Ko Samui again!

Thanks from Nat and Dave from UK

Awesome experience, we really enjoyed it. The set up was very professional, good English, great tour of the food market, everyone involved was so nice and friendly and guided us with cooking delicious Thai food. They provided options for vegetarian dishes. I would highly recommend this experience.

Unfortunately, the planned tour date was cancelled and rescheduled for a later day. Which did impact other tours.
The tour was well catered for, and the tour host was approachable and informative. The food weas tasty and the boat is roomy enough for everyone to spread out.

The tour itself involves a 3-hour cruise to the National Park. There are two climbs on this tour a 500m climb and a 150m climb (different locations). The first climb is tough, the steps are uneven and the pull up ropes are secured to the post by nails and are exposed, so watch them. The second climb to Emeral Lake is only 150m and the steps, whilst steep, are even. The bad weather rolled in heading back to Koh Samui, which made the journey home 4-hours long and didn’t allow us to swim.

All in all a great tour well worth the effort.

Five friends joined the course in the late afternoon. After a very short taxi ride from fisherman's village we were greeted by Tom and shown into his and Lin's beautiful hillside villa.

We were joined by a young American couple. I think there are a maximum of eight places.

Tom walked us around the garden. Showing us vegetables and herbs which we would use later. We collected chillies, lemongrass, turmeric and other ingredients.

Tom handed us over to Lin, who as well as being an expert cook was clear and patient in her instruction. We made three dishes: a Penang duck curry, Tom Yum Goong soup and sweet and sour chicken.

Lin's organisation was superb, with us doing all of the preparation in advance and cooking all three dishes at the last.

Lin had marinated and smoked the duck over charcoal and coconut and she deep fried the chicken in a large batch. Saving us from the risk of using a wok full of oil. Nonetheless she explained and showed us each step so we could repeat at home.

My wife's Penang Curry was the best I have tasted. Mine came a poor second. It was great to taste both and understand what improvements I could make.

The sweet and sour was a revelation. Nothing like the sickly sweet versions I've been served in the UK. I would have said I don't like Sweet and Sour until Lin taught me how to cook one.

Water was included, and we were able to purchase a very acceptable wine at reasonable prices. Tom serving us whilst cooking.

Both joined us to eat and we enjoyed Toms lively conversation and Lin's quieter, intelligent contributions.

My only regret is that Lin was preparing a Beef Rendang for their dinner the following day. This looked and smelled incredible. Unfortunately it wasn't ready for us to taste.

Lin also sells Lasagne at the regular night markets in fisherman's village.

We've just received the recipes and will be trying them at home. I just need to find a good source of ingredients.

All in all a fantastic evening and very good value.

What an experience. Firstly I'd like to say the staff were so friendly and accommodating. We were served snack, drinks and delicious food throughout the day. The views of the islands were breathtaking and we even got to do some snorkelling on private beaches. I would highly recommend this to anybody

It was a great experience. An interesting introduction to the secrets of Thai cuisine. Would surely book again! Pick-up service was very timely, and session started with grocery shopping at the local market.

This was the best boat trip we booked whilst visiting Thailand. The boat was very traditional and comfortable seating was on bean bags on the top deck. The boat even had a small tub that you could soak in if you wished. The tour guides were very friendly and experienced. We had great fun doing the Kayaking and snorkeling. We saw some amazing islands in the Marine Park, it really was paradise. The lunch provided was excellent quality and plentiful and the ice cream and complimentary margarita on the return trip was most welcome.

    TL;DR

My husband, our wedding guests and I had an amazing time cruising around Koh Samui on the Red Baron as part of our pre-wedding festivities! It was a highlight of our stay. Could not recommend enough.

    Full review:

My husband and I chartered the Red Baron for a 3h sunset and dinner cruise as a big thank you gift to all our wedding guests - and we had an amazing time! It was very well suited to the diversity of our group - ranging from 20 to 80 years old!

Sveta was very flexible with our changing number of guests (getting answers from everyone was like herding cats!). She organised the pick up from and drop off to our hotel for everyone (38 people total) so it was all a breeze.

We boarded, had delicious welcome cocktails, and enjoyed discovering the different areas on the boat. We could easily have been more people without it feeling crowded. We got some delicious welcome snack as we sailed around Koh Samui. We made a stop for everyone to swim and it was a great bonding moment for our guests who didn’t know each other well. There are showers on the boat to get rid of the salt afterwards. We then had a buffet dinner with a great variety.

Sveta, Ella and the whole team made the experience very enjoyable, being attentive to all our needs.

Thank you so much for offering such a great experience!

Fun tour of the best fresh food market on Samui. Our guide was so knowledgeable and happy to explain what everything was - the galangal here looks nothing like what I find in Australia.

We got to choose which dishes we wanted to cook which was great. Didn't think I'd eat my way thru all four dishes but they were very tasty!

Loved the green mango salad, but next time I'll be less generous with the dried chillies. Penang curry was yum and the steamed fish was delicious, such an easy one to try at home.

Beautiful setting to cook and dine in, lovely people and nice not to have to do the dishes!
