We booked two tours with MayaWalk (ATM and Tikal) and highly recommend this company for professionalism and knowledgeable guides.

    ATM Tour
My husband and I did the ATM (Actun Tunichil Muknal) Tour mid-May. It truly is a once in a lifetime adventure and learning experience, and I highly recommend doing it when you’re staying in San Ignacio area. My husband and I are active and adventurous; however, this is one of the most exciting and strenuous activities that we have done. We went with MayaWalk and their website has good description of the tour; however, it doesn’t fully capture the full amazing and exhilarating experience. Eric, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable about the history, the Mayan Culture in Central America, and the geology. Eric and our driver, Damien, were with us throughout the tour and very professional. Highly recommend MayaWalk for this tour.

    Tikal Tour
I really wanted to visit Tikal Mayan Ruin in Guatemala while we were in San Ignacio since the border crossing was only 7 miles away. Although we have a rental car for a week, we decided to go with a tour agency and so glad we did since it was stress-free and we had a tour guide to learn about Guatemala and Tikal. We lucked out that we were the only couple and had a private tour. Thanks to MayaWalk Tours for making our trip stress free and memorable! This website describes our tour with an update that tourists that have proof of being fully vaccinated, can cross the border without taking the COVID-19 test. We also needed to show proof of travel insurance crossing the Belize Border

The hotel pickup in San Ignacio was right on time and we met Willie at the border who guided us through the Belize exit and Guatemala immigration process. It was early morning and only took ~15 minutes for 4 people. (There were people at the border selling Guatemalan currency; I bought some but ended up only using it for gratuities along the way). Make sure to bring your Belize insurance info and proof of vaccination for the return trip. You'll get a few passport stamps on this day.

We were soon on our way to the jungles of Guatemala.

On the way, we stopped at a shop that had a 3-D map of Tikal; it was interesting to see the scale and shear number of buildings. This is the place to buy souvenirs and snacks--they have a good selection and take credit cards. There is another shop at the park entrance but has a smaller selection of items.

The tour of Tikal was amazing (if a bit exhausting--you'll do some climbing). Take water (we each had two ~20 oz bottles), sun-screen, bug spray (and hiking boots and poncho if you have them). The rain came just after 2 PM just as Willie predicted. (Willie was an expert of all things Mayan and very knowledgeable about jungle wildlife and pretty much anything we asked about.) By the time the rain started, we were on our way back to the van and a late lunch.

Absolutely incredible experience that exceeded all expectations. There is a great mix of history and learning combined with fun and adventure. The guide Manuel was great fun, really knowledgeable and humorous. There are some really cool obstacles to overcome while working your way through the cave that could put someone off if they overthought it too much, but in my opinion it's achievable for anyone willing to put their mind to it - I never felt unsafe. Would definitely recommend as it's one hell of an experience!

100/100 could not recommend more. Robert Is great and not only cares about your experience but cares about the environment he grew up in. Was honestly the best day in San Ignacio we had by far.

Elio was fantastic, personable, informative, and fun. My wife and I enjoyed the tour immensely. We asked for the tubing portion to be cut out so that we could spend more time at other Mayan sites around San Ignacio and avoid the long drive to and from the cave tubing. Xunatunich site was very intriguing and has stunning views. I am not great with heights and did experience a little anxiety on a couple portions, but got through it just fine.

GREAT experience!!!! Fabulous guide, Manuel, and good lunch and rum punch after! This was the most taxing and extraordinary experience! Not for the feint of heart, nor those who aren’t in good physical condition. You will swim through neck deep water, with and without current, squeeze through tight places and climb huge (Like 2 story high) boulder before you climb (in socks) the huge archeological site and high ladder to the crystal maiden. Truly an adrenaline rush experience. GREAT guide, small 8 person groups must work together to pass back where to stand, hold, etc, as you spend 3 hours in the underground cavern system. Best advise: Wear light weight sturdy shoes you can sim in and wear socks as part of the excursion you are climbing without shoes on. I wore tightly fitting gloves as then I could grip rocks without worrying about cuts and scrapes. You will be soaking wet the whole time, but you will be climbing around, so shorts, t shirt, light Wright long0sleeve top ,athletic skort are all good ideas.

Be aware if you are claustrophobic or scared of the dark or do not swim, this is not the tour for you! You will hike about 45minutes to the cave (quick pace) and back and the water is cold, but you will be expending a lot of energy, so you won’t notice the cold. NO Bags, hats, water bottles, food, camera etc go in with you, so hydrate and eat a snack at the last stop before you enter the river. No bathrooms once you start hiking, so you should take advantage of the jungle stop prior to the fist river crossing…

Take a towel and full dry set of clothes for after, shoes as well. There’s a big restroom building where you can change after and you’ll want dry clothes and shoes before you have lunch and get in the van for the very bumpy ride to the main road.

We loved our time at all 3 destinations. Our driver Lincoln and our guide Giselle (not sure the spelling) were accommodating, professional and prompt. The cave was much more enjoyable and wonderful than we had even anticipated. We thought it was simply a way to break up the drive but we were so impressed with the knowledge of our tour guide and all we were able to see.

The Caracol ruins were absolutely stunning. We spent enough time there to see everything we wanted to see and our tour guide Giselle was knowledgeable, relatable, and explained everything in a way we understood. The Belizean lunch was so delicious as was the rum punch!

Rio On Pools was another great stop. It had rained for several days in a row before we arrived so the pools were overflowing and the current in a few spots was strong but we swam and had a great time getting refreshed.

Our van broke down just a few miles from the office on our return but the owner brought another van in just a few minutes and we were on our way.

I would HIGHLY recommend this tour and MayaWalk Tours. Fantastic experience for all 6 of us.

The experience and the tour guides far exceeded my expectations! We had John Paul for the full day and I cannot recommended him highly enough. If you can request him and book with him, DO IT! He’s incredibly knowledgeable and great to spend the day with. I learned so much and had a great experience.

Only a certain number of guides can take you through the ATM cave itself to Jamir took us through that part. Again, highly recommend him! He was knowledgeable, fun, and kept us all safe.

The ATM was a great adventure where we also learned a lot. The ruins were beautiful and again a great learning experience.

I was so glad to have these specific guides and these experiences were the highlights of our trip. We took another company the next day and wished we had these guides again. I highly recommend this company and this trip!

Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and informative. Once again, I was overwhelmed about how little I was taught about the Mayan civilization growing up in the US. The sheer duration of their civilization, the archaeological record (to date), the ongoing speculation and theories about what led to the abandoning of the sites is fascinating. We walked about the entire site, climbed almost every pyramid/ structure that could be climbed, and learned tons of information while catching our breath between climbs. One disappointment was that it appears the governmental financial support for the maintenance and promotion of the site is clearly lacking and should really be better supported for this treasure.

The only way to experience the Mayan site! The trail is so beautiful. You see the countryside, travel along the Mopan river, and get to take the horses across the river on the hand-cranked ferry. The horses were very well trained, and our guide Elio was so helpful, informative, offered to take photos, and had the best jokes! He was so accommodating. We absolutely loved this experience and would 100% do it again. Cannot recommend this enough!

Dimas was an amazing tour guide! He was also our guide for Xunantunich on the previous day and we felt so lucky to have such a patient, knowledgeable, well spoken guide for both of our excursions in San Ignacio. These two days were the absolute highlight of the trip. I felt like we were always safe and well taken care of on our adventures.

We had an absolute blast doing this tour (and two others!) with Maya Walk during our time in Belize. Our tour guide was Giselle and we had so much fun relaxing down the river with her. She was super knowledgeable about the wildlife and helped us spot three toucans as we floated along! We had a great lunch at a restaurant, and we would highly highly highly recommend Maya Walk for all of your San Ignacio tours.

On the surface, this company provides the same service as many others and I have been hard pressed to find a bad guide in our previous trips to Belize. That said, the guides in this company are the best we have ever come across and Dimas takes the Gold. His knowledge of the sites, gentle and attentive approach with kids and seemingly endless well of patience with our challenging group whose ages ranged from 7 to 80 years old was astounding. His willingness to slow down or speed up according to our needs left us with a completely customized experience. The seamlessness of pickups and drop-offs maximized our time seeing the wonders of Belize without any waiting around. At the site itself, my children were sometimes more interested in the surrounding flora and fauna—so after helping us climb the pyramids, he easily switched gears and sat with the kids at a tarantula den for nearly an hour. He sat and gently twirled a blade of grass at the entrance until this beautiful, black spider with brilliant bolts of blue popped out to investigate. Over and over. He gave each kid a try and never became impatient. As we walked, he would stop at an ant hill or at a line of leaf cutter ants and let the kids examine and help to teach the kids about their ecology. For my dad, an old farmer, he answered exhaustive questions about the economy and farming practices. He also took us on a side trip to Lamanai where another guide was the lead person, but it was always Dimas who lagged behind with the kids to let them explore at their own pace and help them find such hidden wonders as a coatimundi who was stealthily sneaking up a nearby tree or a howler monkey Jumping high above us. It’s impossible to quantify all the wonderful things that Dimas brought to the table. I will say this. We were traveling with a family group of rowdy children and aging grandparents—and not one moment of that trip was negative. Not once did we feel like a burden or a problem. We were allowed to explore at our pace, and because of it we experienced so many unexpected wonders and no one felt exhausted or rushed.

We went on SIX adventures - Cave Tubing, Barton Creek Cave Canoeing, Caracol Mayan Ruin, River Tubing, and my favorite -- Crystal Cave. And on our ride back to the airport we stopped at the Belize Zoo. Our driver (same company) gave us a tour of the zoo which we loved. It was AWESOME using Belize Caving Expeditions - Each experience was great, and the guides are amazing !! I was drawn to visit Belize to go Cave tubing, and using this company was fantastic because we got to do so many different things. I liked Crystal Cave because spelunking is cool - I love adventure and am proud I accomplished this feat. The guides have a lot of experience, and we appreciated their knowledge and kindness. Every adventure we booked with this company was fun. Give yourself at least 6-7 days in San Ignacio. I HIGHLY recommend using them.
