Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Visiting Lochmara has been on our 'to do' list for several years after family had been over and recommended it.

A short ferry ride into the beautiful sounds from picton (approx 15 mins) takes you to somewhere that feels like you have escaped to Fiji or somewhere. The picturesque view, hammocks dotted all over the grounds and lovely island style umbrellas out over the cafe add to the environment where relaxation is forced. Staff were friendly and informative right throughout the entire premises. We paid extra to visit the underwater observatory. This is a must do attraction at Lochmara, with a seaside touch tank, getting up close and personal with the stingrays (you can even feed them if you are up for it) and a 40 minute guided tour into a permanently moored boat that has underwater viewing for all the sea life. An outstanding part of the experience. The cafe has a small selection of food, all of which we tried was scrumptious and wholesome! (You are not allowed to take your own picnic) plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. A day trip is wonderful but if you want to stay they do have lovely accomodation. The wildlife experiences were fantastic, feeding pigs, hand feeding kakariki and eels. So much fun! Free sunblock available in the cafe if you run out like we did. There were plenty of kayaks and paddle boards available to use in the safe and calm swimming beach. When the tide is in be prepared for there to be no beach at all, however once the tide went out the beach was beautiful. You are able to change the time of your return ferry if you need more time (subject to availability) we loved how sustainable the lodge was, all the food scraps from the cafe feeding the pigs, catching their own fish for the stingrays, all the glass.bottles go into their own onsite glass crusher and get laid out like a glittery sand on the walking paths.

Some things to note, that we would of rated a 5 star had it been different. Onsite facilitys such as ablution blocks were limited and the toilets at the cafe didn't look or smell particularly clean. There is one further up the hill that was far nicer. Often a large wait to use the toilet as there isn't enough to cater for the volume of guests. Also no changing room facilities so often waiting to use the toilet while other guests were in them getting dressed after swimming.
The grounds were not particularly all ability access friendly, we were not aware before our visit that all the walking was up into the hills. My mobility isn't fantastic so we were unprepared for a lot of uphilling. Take your comfy shoes and if you are in a wheelchair there won't be much of the walking tracks/ attraction points within the venue that you will be able to do.

We had a brilliant time and just loved being there!

This is a very small mall. Even the supermarket is small. Only few shops available.

Consolation here is that this is a town centre in Picton, so there are other standalone shops & dining options available nearby along the main street. This helps.

Probably most people like us come here just for the only supermarket in this town area.

Would a lovely shop! lots of interesting jewellery and a very nice helpful assistant. Came to walk the queen charlotte and went home with new earings ..... As the name says, it is a gem of a place and not like all your other touristy , repetitive shops. good work.

My partner was bitterly disappointed that the ring at Bay Of Many Coves could not sold to her. Off the Cougar Line ferry we rocked into the shop and spoke to charming Lynn and the Marvellous Murray - the jeweller.

We looked through the stock and with their encouragement decided to create a ring from scratch - literally.

Murray prioritised our request wit professional patience and humour.

The result was a beautiful Blue Pearl ring that has solicited immediate compliments from all that have seen it on our return from New Zealand, through Hong Kong and the US back to UK/London.

Unquestioned value-for-money: for the ring and the experience. Thank you Lyn and Murray.

I spent over an hour here looking at lots of peculiar trinkets and books. There are clothes , knitting materials, and many souvenirs. Glad I stopped in.

Wandered in here while in town for the day. Sent some time with the owner who explained the different media types (more here than just wood) and some of the other artists who are represented. They also ship anywhere in the world so you don't have to worry about getting your purchases home.

While on a cruise I left my prescription glasses at the Creek Pottery in Pictin. I didn't realize they were gone until we reached our next port and I couldn't even remember where I left them except perhaps at a store in the town. I had a receipt for one of the stores and that store suggested to call Creek Pottery. Leoni identified the glasses immediately and Neil shipped them back to the states gratis. They also did their best to ensure the return of a passport to someone one the ship who had left it in their store. I think this store is the most attractive one on the street and I found a very nice, reasonably priced t-shirt for my 2 year-old grandson. Highly recommend.

Like many of this type of store they are invaluable for getting last minute things. Eg a plastic poncho for unexpected wet weather. Also a pack away nylon backpack for extras you didn't intend to buy.
