Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great scenic full day trip to Akaroa. Includes stops on the way there and back. Convenient Hotel pick-up and drop-off. The very knowledgeable and entertaining Scotty was our Driver/Guide.

We had the absolute best time on today’s trip with Stew, Hannah and Buster. We saw four pods of dolphins playing around the catamaran, with Buster happily helping us find them round the boat with an excited tail wag. We saw seals and cormorants too.

Stew was super knowledgeable and engaging about the wildlife, history, local economy and geology of the harbour, a fascinating and funny description throughout.

Stew and Hannah were also kind enough to accommodate for my booking request, begging for Buster to be that day’s Dolphin Dog as I was missing my Schnauzer back in London!!

We can not recommend this tour enough (and the baking was yum too)!

This trip was amazing. Incredibly informative with a good amount of cultural inclusion. All staff on CAT were lovely and welcoming. We spent a good amount of time looking for the hector dolphins and were lucky enough to experience and observe their behaviours. I particularly love that Black Cat Cruises are offering kids go for free over the school holidays. Overall a fantastic experience and highly recommend.

Friendly staff who looked after us well and answered all of our questions. They worked hard to make sure we had a good experience! Loved our experience swimming with the dolphins.

We really enjoyed our sea kayak tour (11.30 tour). Our guide, Lee, was knowledgeable, experienced, and safe, but also fun and unobtrusive. As novices in our 50's and 60's we felt very comfortable being out on the water with Lee.

We were visiting from US and the North Island and got to see the stars on a very clear winter night. Luca was a great host, explaining the southern night sky, the life cycle of stars, relationship of human-produced light on the environment, and distances across space and time.

A few notes for those that might be considering this:
    1) Definitely worth the experience
    2) When making a reservation, the address that google extracts from the confirmation is different than the meeting place for the tour, so check the instructions and don't trust the google address.
    3) The night can be cold- Luca has blankets and hot drinks, but as you are still for most of the experience, bundle up if going in the winter
    4) Children under 5 are not supposed to come- We did not see this in advance, so I was there with my baby and since it was just our family in the group, we all went together, but I would have been very dissappointed to have missed this if she was not allowed in.
    5) Definitely worth the experience

Enjoy your place in the stars!

My partner and I just finished an 11 day tour around the South Island and we would definitely recommend. It’s the best way to see some of the best sights New Zealand has to offer and you meet amazing people along the way. Our driver, Tina was amazing! We always felt very safe with her and she was always making sure we had an alternative things to do if anything got cancelled due to weather. She was so knowledgable and warm and made the trip even better. Thank you Tina!

The best part of this tour was the sheep farm. The people who run the farm are lovely, and gave us an excellent overview of the what it takes to run a sheep farm. As well, the tea and scones were delicious and the owners were extremely hospitable and engaging. They deserve a 5/5. There was some disorganization at the outset as a driver did not show up which left our driver handling it all. He was excellent (Dennis) and gave us a great deal of information as we drove to Christchurch. We then switched vans and had limited time at the museum before being dropped off for a lunch break. Janet was our driver for the afternoon and she also had a lot of information to share. She did a very good job but was compromised by the van she had to drive. The van that we were in for the afternoon was much too cramped for the number of people and any many of the clients were uncomfortable which should never have occurred. Given the narrowness of the seats, there should have been fewer people and another van added. It is not ok to fill the van to capacity when the leg room is cramped and the road is very winding. Two people had some car sickness which may not have occurred if they had more room. Everyone should be warned in advance of the type of road. It is very manageable if people have room and a window.

Don't hesitate to make this booking! It's truly enjoyable and worth every penny. I had the most amazing time on this tour. Everything was perfect: the postcard-worthy locations, the comfortable drive, the exceptional guide, the exciting activities, and the fantastic weather-it was all just incredible!
Our guide was passionate, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable about New Zealand. This was a hassle-free trip; we never had to worry about managing our schedule or keeping track of the time for activities. The guide took care of everything, coordinating our activities and even informing us in advance if there were changes due to weather. He gave us options well ahead of time, allowing us to choose alternatives if needed.
He also shared fascinating stories and historical facts that made the stunning landscapes come to life. Lake Tekapo's turquoise waters were breathtaking, and the weather cleared up just in time for us to experience the best stargazing of our lives. We could clearly see the Milky Way and countless stars - a magical sight.
The scenery at Mt. Cook was like something out of postcard, with snow-capped peaks that were absolutely mesmerizing. Queenstown, the adventure capital of the world, did not disappoint. The jet boating experience was exhilarating-one of the best experiences of our lives, and something we will cherish forever.
Our guide also showed us hidden spots perfect for taking pictures and even offered to take several photos of us, which was a thoughtful touch. Overall, this trip was a once in a lifetime experience, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to explore the beauty and excitement of New Zealand.

Our driver did a great job showing us the Banks Peninsula and Christchurch. It's a shame so much damage from the 2011 Earthquake in Christchurch, but still beautiful and good to hear the story and rebuild going on. The Jet Boat ride on the Waimak was a real hoot! loved it. Would recommend!

A fascinating tour round the area which was, unfortunately, spoiled by some appalling rain!! The driver did well keeping us entertained and we all felt sorry for him!!
The trip included the Antarctic exhibition - however, Leisure tours refused to take us there as there weren't enough people on the trip - I was angry!!!
