Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

You’ve got lovely cobbled streets, gorgeous old buildings, lots of shops plus plenty of restaurants and lively bars. And if you do have one or two drinks then the uneven streets will compensate your stagger home.

The view from the square of The House of the Blackheads was particularly stunning when lighted up at night. Good spot to spend a few moments reflecting.

The church itself is quite average, it’s nothing ornate, just bare brick and whitewashed plaster. Did like the retro stairway to the lift for the viewpoint. You pay extra for the viewpoint but the 360-degree view over Riga is captivating.

It is a truly marvellous piece of history and art. Seeing the colourful and vivid culture of Latvia is stunning. The hall and stairway are like entering heaven.

We enjoyed seeing this cathedral across the square every time we looked out of our upper floor flat. Makes for a useful navigation point. Our visit coincided with the Riga marathon (30,000+ runners); many of whom were post-race relaxing on the grounds immediately surrounding the cathedral.

Came across this park when we had visited St Peter's Church. It's immaculately kept, with beautiful flowers and grass next to the canal. Seeing as where I live the parks are litter filled and unkempt, this was lovely.

6 euros gets you to the 15th floor by lift, and stairs to deck on 17th floor.
Great view of the market hangars, the old town, the river and the surrounding areas.
The Academy of Sciences building is easy to spot, close to the central market, but construction work at the station as part of the Rail Baltica project means you might find it a little awkward to get to. Use the tunnel next to the railway station, and visit the central markets whilst in the area, as well as the Jewish Ghetto (you can see an isolated railway truck from the panoramic deck, looking towards the river)

Excellent performance and staging of a rare ballet (the Fountain of Bakhchisarai) and a good performance of an operetta (The Merry Widow) in a lovely opera house.

Don't miss a trip to this art museum when you're in Riga. Gorgeous building, beautiful art that tells you the history and story of Latvia, and wonderful museum restaurant! Exhibits are first rate with cutting-edge wall texts and an all around receptive feel. Loved it!!

Our tour went to this street. It is a mix of beautiful art nouveau buildings, and well worth seeing.

Lovely garden and park within easy walking distance of Old City Riga (and shops, restaurants, and other sights/sites). Nice for strolling, taking your dog for a walk, having your kid(s) run around, etc.

These wonderful and tranquil canals are perfect for a stroll or a picnic on one of the banks.
It's also lovely to take a rowbot and explore the canals for an hour or so.

This is a charming square, dotted with coffee shops and stores.
There's a quirky sculpture in the square, too.

The gardens were an average Botanical garden level, the big greenhouses unfortunately not open for public.

However I really enjoyed the butterfly house. I was there relatively early on a Sunday and Got some nice alone time in the house to watch the butterflies fly around. Getting them on a camera required some patience.
