Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

There is an entrance fee of 5 Euros and we felt this was worth the price. The cathedral is very ornate inside and has a lot of Riga and Latvian history inside. There is a large collection of artifacts including cannons and relics in the cathedral's cloister and courtyard area beside the church. Inside there is a baptismal font from the 13th century, stained glass from the 19th century and paintings from all centuries since the church was built. There are interesting bits of Riga's history as well including a line to mark where the flooding got up to in the 1700s and church pews from the Blackheads (which had/have a famous clubhouse nearby).

There is a map at the front desk that is available in a variety of languages and has numbers marked for the most interesting features in the cathedral and has some brief information on each one. There is also a guide at the back of the cathedral to show where other interesting markers are in the Cathedral.

The church is located in Riga's Old Town and we spent about just under an hour inside the cathedral and a couple of hours in the area. Behind the church there are some statues including a unicorn, dragon and an armadillo. We also are at a nearby restaurant that had some very good food and beer. The cathedral hosts concerts and it might be worth checking one out because the acoustics are supposed to be quite good but it seems that we just missed out.

If you're interested in going inside but don't want to pay for entrance there is a prayer room just to the left when you enter and that is free and pretty big. English service is provided at 9:30 am on Sundays.

Nice church in the old town of Riga. Unfortunately it was closed the times I visited so I couldn’t go inside, but I did enjoy walking around the exterior

Riga the art Nouveau city has so many beautiful buildings and this is certainly one of them. The building is an architectural beauty and is beautifully designed inside as well.
Be sure not to miss checking out the ceilings.
    A definite must see.

Came across this church on way to Corner House. Built in wood in the 19th century. Odd that it isn't advertised as a tourist site.

This is a wonderful old cathedral with an amazing spire.
While the interiors are quite modest, don't miss the very morbid skull collection at the crypt.

You can find many churches in a small area of Riga Old Town.

The Church of St Mary Magdalene is located along a small street next to St. James's Cathedral.

This Roman Catholic church is named for Jesus' companion, Mary Magdalene.

The current church building dates from 1746. It was first built as a wooden monastery chapel around 1260.

Spotted this 1869 church down a side street. No signage to inform you where this is. Keep your eyes open for plenty of hidden gems.

This Anglican church is located in the Old Town close to Riga Castle and the banks of the Daugava River.

The neo-Gothic brick church was completed in 1859. It has a strikingly high tower.

The church can be best visited during Sunday services.

Built in 1785, this church is of completely different colour scheme than most of the others in this city. Really photogenic.

As it is not in the city centre many people probably don't think of visiting this stunning orthodox church. I would highly recommend a visit, the church is beautiful both on the outside and inside. Only a few minutes taxi ride from the centre.

Annunciation of Our Most Holy Lady Church is situated next to the Latvian Academy of Sciences skyscraper. The contrast between these two buildings is enormous.

During the war between Russia and France in 1812, all Riga's suburbs were burned down, as well as this church. A new church, in Classical style, was completed in 1818.

Outside of the old city behind the central market, you will find this 1621 church pretending to be a roundabout. Interesting to walk around.

The church looks big but from inside it's not really. I really like the interior, very cosy. To be honest, if you visit Riga for a few days, just miss it, not so special to worth to visit it. If you stay for a longer time, you can, but don't expect a lot. It opens only just a few hours in a day, arrive in time!
