Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

- pauldQ72RC5 contributionsWe booked a day of fly fishing with Southern Latitude Guides in late February. Nans was amazing helping with all the set up and provided excellent suggestions of things for my wife to do while my son and I fished for the day. My son and I are very novice self taught fly fishermen and thus do it very poorly. Blair was the perfect guide for us. Friendly and infinitely patient. He did some teaching with us and provided lots of constructive feedback throughout the day. He put us on a lot of fish. We had a healthy number of strikes and we even managed to hook a decent number and land some nice browns. In addition to his pleasant demeanor Blair is very hard working. We fished steady from 8 am to 5 pm and he would have gone longer if we had wanted. All in all an amazing experience. Seamlessly booked and arranged from the other side of the world (thanks Nans) and couldn't ask for a better guide and day on the water (thanks Blair). We will definitely be repeat customers. The team is super friendly, for example if the wind becomes less in the middle of the lesson or in the time your rent gear, then you only have to pay half the price.Written 20 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Andy, the captain, was very easy to talk to and could tell us a lot about the area and New Zealand history. Michelle was a great host that had everything sorted and planned. Everything was taken care of, even things for the kids. Boar was clean, food was good, nice drinks on board. Places we visited were very nice and we had a lot of fun with the paddle boards and the beach toys.

Our whole family went on a tour and not only got to see the incredible views of the bay and sea life, but got to hear stories from Josh about the history of the lodge, the area and the Maori culture. Can’t recommend him highly enough!Written 21 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- BruceFarquharNelson, New Zealand415 contributionsYou would think that living in this city for 21 years I would have used this ferry before, but in fact yesterday was the first time. I got taken from the dock off Haven Road to the Cut end of the boulder bank and walked up the boulder bank to meet the rest of the family who had walked from the base of the bank. We then walked back towards the Cut, exploring the lighthouse interior and then got picked up by the ferry and returned to the dock, to complete a very enjoyable day
Robin, our ferry captain, was knowledgeable about the area and the wildlife, extremely punctual and a wonderful guide. - G REngland, UK10 contributionsA couple of excellent scuba dives off Cable Bay, Nelson NZ. Well organized, very good gear available for rent and a couple of brilliant tips for how to prevent mask fogging.
Lots of interesting marine life including carpet shark, tame blue cod and some of the largest crayfish I've seen.Written 5 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Unfortunately at the end of the trip I was was told by an employee picking up the boat not to fill up the petrol at the end of the day as it was done by them. Ended up getting charged $30 for the privilege despite being told it was included. The response was unapologetic - that it is my fault and that I should be happy they discounted it from $75 fee. Made a great experience end very badly with underhanded, money-grabbing tacticsWritten 27 February 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - whispering-solesNelson, New Zealand36 contributionsMet at 8.30 am for a day fishing, fabulous captain and first mate, very helpful with baiting, hooking off fish, barbecue them for lunch and heaps more to take home. Arrived back at port at 7.00 pm. Absolutely a must for anyone who loves fishing.Written 1 November 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
