Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This gorgeous little store, opening off the Textile Emporium, is full of carefully chosen clothing, accessories and hand made jewellery, all displayed amid some beautiful old furniture and fittings. It’s like a little oasis, so unlike any other apparel store. Debra, the owner, is always beautifully outfitted in garments from her store and willing to advise on suitable garments for special occasions. It’s not just for women - there are men’s outfits and accessories too. The jewellery is unique and reasonably priced. A must to visit when you’re in Oamaru.Written 3 February 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Tracey HNewcastle upon Tyne, UK641 contributionsNow this is my type of gift shop! It's in such a lovely place, in the beautiful Harbour Street, with an abundance of special products, and lovely staff who provide the friendliest, most helpful service. I couldn't resist treating myself to a couple of keepsakes from a wonderful trip to New Zealand. Great quality products, many of which are eco-friendly at fair prices!Written 11 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - dragonwebbNaseby, New Zealand36 contributionsVery few places exist like the Textile Emporium- it's a haven of quality crafts and textiles. There's a wonderful selection of NZ Yarns, lots of knitted and felt hats, woven and knitted scarves and wraps, silk scarves, small items suitable for gifts, gorgeous quilts, woollen and cotton jackets and much more.Written 11 July 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Had a great chat, and she gave me a clay heart magnet I loved made by a local artist, but I didn't have any money on me at the moment.

- AdrienneJ15Christchurch, New Zealand61 contributionsI was looking for postcards (not easy!) and stumbled into this delightful old style bookshop. The shelves are labelled with exquisite detail and although I had no plan to buy I walked out with two books, wrapped in brown paper and tied with string! but before that, the "proprietor" in his appropriate costume wrote up my purchases in a huge old ledger book... with a fountain pen... the book had previously been used to record some unknown household's purchases showing that it was very old... how special that they are using up its empty pages!

- Kay004New Zealand262 contributionsTwo things instantly attract you to this shop- the sign with the flying penguin (well why shouldn't Oamaru cash in on them?) and the large papier mache penguin out front, wearing the QR scanning code around his neck. If you're feeling a bit complacent about scanning, why not visit this shop just to scan a penguin, for something different?
The store is one of those gift shops you often find in the provincial towns that sell predominantly local made items, and some quirky items along with the traditional. It was a lot of fun to browse and I bought a card made by the owner with the shop sign.Written 2 April 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Grant NHastings, New Zealand1,507 contributionsMiss Purple is a Steam Punk fanatic and the shop just screams the genre as does she herself. She's a laugh a minute and it's worth going just for the entertainment factor. Just love this place - wound up buying a cheese cutter hat (very normal - don't think I could carry off the Steam Punk stuff). However, we talked to Miss Purple and encouraged a young man to buy a pair of very much "out there" high heeled shoes - which incidentally he modelled and he really "owned" those shoes. Really worth a visit - it's a great experience and the items for sale cover a lot of fantasy ground. Very highly recommendWritten 22 April 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- TR82Brisbane231 contributionsFound this right near the footbridge over the railway line between the brewery and the Steampunk playground.
