What travellers are saying
- MoolooSwampyAuckland, New Zealand224 contributionsThe bacon butties ($6 each) are a highlight. Excellent coffee, a good range of vegies, cheese, baking and other yummy local produce, and all just along the road from the unique playground and opposite the historic quarter.Written 1 October 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Grant NHastings, New Zealand1,266 contributionsStopped in while wandering around the precinct - nice clean and spacious areas - bit of a climb to the upper floor - but worth a look. Some items were interesting to me - a lot weren't but there was plenty to meet most tastes. Worth a lookWritten 21 April 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.

- Tracey HNewcastle upon Tyne, UK660 contributionsNow this is my type of gift shop! It's in such a lovely place, in the beautiful Harbour Street, with an abundance of special products, and lovely staff who provide the friendliest, most helpful service. I couldn't resist treating myself to a couple of keepsakes from a wonderful trip to New Zealand. Great quality products, many of which are eco-friendly at fair prices!Written 11 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- WilsonFamilyNzPleasant Point, New Zealand535 contributionsDropped in for Lilly fix, great variety and great prices, friendly staff, only issue was exit as with Covid it’s a one way, had to wait to get back down ramp in my wheelchair, but it worked wellWritten 11 October 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- AdrienneJ15Christchurch, New Zealand66 contributionsI was looking for postcards (not easy!) and stumbled into this delightful old style bookshop. The shelves are labelled with exquisite detail and although I had no plan to buy I walked out with two books, wrapped in brown paper and tied with string! but before that, the "proprietor" in his appropriate costume wrote up my purchases in a huge old ledger book... with a fountain pen... the book had previously been used to record some unknown household's purchases showing that it was very old... how special that they are using up its empty pages!
what a delightful, unexpected trip into the pastWritten 17 February 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Hix079 contributionsGreat little place in the perfect setting. An must see for anyone who loves the chance to score a unique bargain or gift for another.
Olivia, who owns the store, is friendly without being pushy. Exactly what you want for this store of browsable wonders.Written 20 December 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - dragonwebbNaseby, New Zealand40 contributionsVery few places exist like the Textile Emporium- it's a haven of quality crafts and textiles. There's a wonderful selection of NZ Yarns, lots of knitted and felt hats, woven and knitted scarves and wraps, silk scarves, small items suitable for gifts, gorgeous quilts, woollen and cotton jackets and much more.Written 11 July 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- ajaksd1Los Angeles, CA2 contributionsGreat store and Jessie is really nice and helpful.
Had a great chat, and she gave me a clay heart magnet I loved made by a local artist, but I didn't have any money on me at the moment.
So I ended paying her with a chocolate bar!Written 15 March 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Murray APapamoa, New Zealand219 contributionsIan has the magic touch when it comes to interesting sculptures. Make a purchase and you will not be disapointedas you will have a piece of Oamaru that you will treasure for a lifetime. Prices are not too bad when considering the time and effort tht goes into every piece and he has a range of prices and sculpture sizes availableWritten 14 June 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Dana MCambridge, New Zealand26 contributionsExcellent staff - she was a wealth of information about the town! Most helpful!! And the shop had some excellent wee treasures hidden around the place.Written 24 February 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Grant NHastings, New Zealand1,266 contributionsMiss Purple is a Steam Punk fanatic and the shop just screams the genre as does she herself. She's a laugh a minute and it's worth going just for the entertainment factor. Just love this place - wound up buying a cheese cutter hat (very normal - don't think I could carry off the Steam Punk stuff). However, we talked to Miss Purple and encouraged a young man to buy a pair of very much "out there" high heeled shoes - which incidentally he modelled and he really "owned" those shoes. Really worth a visit - it's a great experience and the items for sale cover a lot of fantasy ground. Very highly recommendWritten 22 April 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- K1ngsGldLincoln, New Zealand253 contributionsWe commissioned a sign a for our holiday, which is just fantastic. the shop is full of all sorts of collectables as well. Stamps, Comics, books even a large selection of old vinyl LP's. well worth having a look in here on a wet day. Oh and the fudge is yummy tooWritten 28 April 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
