Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

- eppikureeusSalt Lake City, UT460 contributionsA must stop if in the vicinity! Way fun watching the seals swim, play and feed! Great vantage point from the overlook. Also saw some albatross. Way more seal activity that at the Peninsula colony.Written 8 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Anna GZurich, Switzerland218 contributionsI started the walk at the visitor center in Kaikoura. Don't miss out on Fyffe house on the way - very interesting history and enthusiastic ladies telling you about it all. A bit further on you can stop at the street stalls selling crayfish and more. From the car park I took the coastal route and saw many seals. At Whalers Bay you can take the path up the hill to the cliff walk and continue to South Bay. From up there you have good views. Walk along South Bay Parade till you see the sign towards Kaikoura. It is a nice 35 minute walk back to town. All in all it took me 5 and a half hours with visiting Fyffe House, eating, clambering over rocks at point Kean, taking photos and admiring the seals. At Whalers Bay they were quite close and not bothered by us tourists. There are cordoned off areas just before.Written 16 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- eppikureeusSalt Lake City, UT460 contributionsAn easy, very pretty, short walk from the parking lot. Oodles of seals, mostly just sunbathing, most at some distance from the rope barrier. Still very much with a visit. Although the Ohau Point colony was way more fun to watch - many swimming, feeding and playing.Written 8 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Grant NHastings, New Zealand1,507 contributionsWe'd been before on out last trip but it's definitely worth doing again. The displays are great. Our only gripe was the fact that the earthquake display was now part of the general museum - that's only because it was fascinating seeing it all in one place before. However, there's a lot to see and a huge amount of history and local stories. Very well laid out and something for everybody. We'd go again if back in the area once moreWritten 17 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Tourist3415604093910 contributionsAbsolutely amazing! Extremely friendly staff and plenty of time in the water swimming with hundreds of wild dolphins. Gave you everything you needed, and even got to see albatross and seals… would defo recommend! Able to hire a GoPro and keep the SIM card if you don’t have one as well as anti sickness meds … and staff very knowledgeable on all the local wildlife and the conservation effortsWritten 10 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - WanderlustNottinghamshire, UK581 contributionsReally enjoyed this trip, everything was well organised, from the booking, check in, the coach trip to the catamaran terminal. The day we were on the trip, they had advised there was a high risk of sea sickness due to the high winds/choppy water so at least you could prepare by taking medication in advance of the sailing.
The staff were entertaining, engaging and really made the trip by providing advise if you were feeling unwell etc as to where the best seating would be and things to try.
Very informative as to the whales seen in the area, lifespan, migration habits and the whales they had come to know.
We were lucky enough to spot a sperm whale, who was at the surface long enough for everyone on the vessel to see. We subsequently found out the whale's name is Rangatira, a male, well known to them from the nicks/ shape of the tale.
It really couldn't have been any better the staff really made this!Written 5 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Kiley was our guide and she went over and beyond to make our sea lion watching kayak adventure amazing. She was an excellent communicator and gave us a comprehensive overview of the sea life as we paddled through the coves. Everyone on the team gets 5 stars.
Highly recommend this kayak tour company!Written 2 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It’s a cool experience to bond with an animal this way and I highly recommend it. The yummy cakes and coffee is a nice bonus!Written 30 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- FellowTraveler7831563 contributionsI’ve been on charters across Australia and the South Pacific over the past 40+ years
Until yesterday by far the best has been Audacity based in Townsville in Queensland
The Kaikoura Fishing charter rivals it
What’s not to like?
Well set up boat. Good equipment. Very knowledgeable, helpful skipper and deckie
Fishing relatively close in so more time spent fishing rather than boating
Five species of fish and a bonus crayfish to take home
To say nothing of the albatross, the dolphins, the seal, the view etc etc etc
Interestingly my tour companions were not fishermen at all but they were very well looked after
So in summary: BRILLIANTWritten 14 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Fin and Charlie (Charlotte) were amazing guides and elevated the experience to be fun for everyone. Absolutely stunning views, the best I have seen in New Zealand so far in 3 visits. Ziplining is an awesome activity even if you are scared of heights, a pretty tame adventure activity to get you started and brilliant value for money with a bit of everything for everyone.Written 21 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tracy BAdelaide, Australia30 contributionsWe had a really great time at Glenstrae. The vehicles were all in excellent condition and the guides were lots of fun to spend time with. Despite their superficial irreverence, they were extremely safety conscious and accomplished drivers.
The views were spectacular and the opportunity to see seals and dolphins at close proximity was an unexpected added bonus.
Highly recommended.Written 31 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
