Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great place to stop and view the seal colony. Loads of seals from v small babies to energetic teenagers playing the water and exhausted mums just chilling on the rocks.

Walked it a couple of times, sunrise is amazing! 5 minutes walk to the top from the carpark and then easy going from there. Great views over to the other side of the peninsula, saw both dolphins and seals. Then headed down and walked around the base - great as well. Uncrowded - can walk right from town if you like. Enjoyed it immensely so went 3 or 4 times!

The walk was pretty easy and the rewards were great. Early morning seems best time, there were hundreds of seals with pups playing, adults resting. The signs say stay 10m away and most people respect that which is great. Sometimes though you almost stumble onto some that have come ashore a bit further like the little one in our picture on the main track. Walk around to the second platform. A must do and it's free with great scenery as well

As far as the theatre was concerned it was top notch and the staff member was interactive. For both of these I would have given an 'excellent' review. The movie was excellent too BUT the volume was ridiculously loud. Within 1 minute I sounded my disapproval to staff who in all fairness was not prepared to adjust the settings. I waited until the trailers were over in the hope the film itself had less volume. It did but it was still far too loud. Twenty four hours later my ears are still suffering. No way should anyone be subject to this torture. If theatres want business then they need to consider their customers and not blindly follow the settings. Yes, I should have demanded my money back after the first minute. In future I will and I ask others to do the same. Then we can enjoy the films we enjoy with the appropriate level of sound. Personally I think a 50% discount would have been appropriate. This experience spoiled an afternoon outing with my wife who likewise suffered from the sound.

This was outstanding. I swam while my wife viewed from the boat. Very well instructed prior to going out, all safety, gear and interaction instructions all clearly communicated. The staff all love their work, the dolphins and Kaikoura. We saw literally hundreds of dolphins and swam 5 times with pods. The dolphins seemed to enjoy it, swimming around us and interacting. Up to them of course. We had a beautiful, calm day which helped but wow, would do it again in a heartbeat. Good value considering. Outstanding!

This kayak trip was absolutely one of the best experiences so far on our 30 day NZ adventure. Kiley was our guide and she went over and beyond to make our sea lion watching kayak adventure amazing. She was an excellent communicator and gave us a comprehensive overview of the sea life as we paddled through the coves. Everyone on the team gets 5 stars.
Highly recommend this kayak tour company!

We had a beautiful walk along the beaches in Kaikoura with Kevin and his fascinating and intelligent llamas. It’s a cool experience to bond with an animal this way and I highly recommend it. The yummy cakes and coffee is a nice bonus!

Really enjoyed this trip, everything was well organised, from the booking, check in, the coach trip to the catamaran terminal. The day we were on the trip, they had advised there was a high risk of sea sickness due to the high winds/choppy water so at least you could prepare by taking medication in advance of the sailing.
The staff were entertaining, engaging and really made the trip by providing advise if you were feeling unwell etc as to where the best seating would be and things to try.
Very informative as to the whales seen in the area, lifespan, migration habits and the whales they had come to know.
We were lucky enough to spot a sperm whale, who was at the surface long enough for everyone on the vessel to see. We subsequently found out the whale's name is Rangatira, a male, well known to them from the nicks/ shape of the tale.
It really couldn't have been any better the staff really made this!

Wonderful experience just paddling the kayaks, but of course hugely enhanced by the magnificent views all around, the awesome seal antics and the really informative and interesting guides who took great care of us.

Loved, loved our 30 minute adventure to look for sperm whales! Kaikoura is uniquely set up for this as there is deep ocean depth near to land. From the waiting area to the pilot to the plane - a first class operation. They work with other local companies to spot whales and timed our flight for the optimal time to see a sighted whale. As in all nature there are no guarantees ( we didn’t see a kiwi in Kapiti Island) but we were lucky on this flight! Really a must do if in the area!

6 am seemed early, and they warned us the seas were moderate to heavy. It was quite the roller coaster ride! However, Gary, our skipper, knew what he is doing, and he knows his birds. We saw several albatross species so close that you could practically touch them. Very worthwile.

An enjoyable few hours in near perfect conditions, spent with a couple of generous kiwi blokes who love a good yarn and love sharing with others, their little piece of paradise. The bonus was the huge pod of dolphins playing in the Bay and seals basking on the rock below.

We recently moved to Kaikoura from the North Island and we really wanted to experience a helicopter flight in our new area. It was just awesome, the pilot was really informative and Dan Stevenson made it very easy for my grand-daughters feel safe and comfortable. It was the best experience for us all and gave us a really informative insight to the earthquakes and how it had changed Kaikoura. We also managed to see a huge pod of dolphins surfing so made it so much more wonderful. Highly recommended.

We spent yesterday morning swimming with the seals and enjoyed it immensely! I couldn't have had a better experience with the seals. The tour the were very carefully not to abuse the natural wildlife during the tour and explained the time before we set off (ie keep three meters away etc), except they forgot to tell the seals! These lovely creatures playfully somersault around us, looking us directly in the grave from less than a meter away. I always felt totally safe underway the expert care of Al, who was very helpful and expert.
