Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

- Happiness341274390328 contributionsPete did a fantastic job explaining and showing us all there is to know about sheep and shearing. Highly recommended for families. - Ann TPascoe Vale, Australia1,386 contributionsFyffe House is the oldest colonial building in the South Island. We were introduced to the museum by an enthusiastic young woman who gave us a personal guided tour of this interesting pink weather board house which was built on the bones of whales (literally) between 1844 and 1860 and has been the home of a whaler, a harbour master, a fisherman and their families. Worth a visit.Written 16 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Francesca CMalibu, CA81 contributionsThe Kaikoura Coast Track is a 2 day, 3 night, walk through the Handyside and Macfarlane, working, family farms. Besides raising sheep, cattle, fruit and bees, the families work to conserve the coast. Walkers help them afford to protect the native forest, shrublands, wetlands, geological features, habitats for native animals, and cultural sites. Along the way we stayed in basic huts with wonderful home cooked meals. We saw hector dolphins, seals, sperm whales, fantails, wood pigeons, riflemen, bellbirds, grey warblers, cuckoos and brown creepers. In the evenings we would dine together with the other hikers.Written 8 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - wigsNZChristchurch, New Zealand283 contributionsThe garden area you can explore was smaller than we expected. It was also very overgrown and full of weeds. I was itching to get in there and tidy up. A good tidy and a weed would make the garden phenomenal.
Took us all of 10 minutes to walk around and take some photos. The lavender is incredible. So many bees.
Good products in the gift shop, so I think it's worth the visit.Written 5 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
