- Ellen B45 contributionsThe guy we talked with on the phone arranging the flight was knowledgeable and helpful. The pilot, Kel, was fantastic. A huge plus is they know the whales' general behaviors, and they stay in touch with boat captains and one another to increase the chance of spotting whales. But . . . luck is involved. We didn't see any whales.
But then, there were two seats on the next flight and Kel asked us if we wanted to try again, for free. Yes.! And on that second flight we saw both a sperm whale and a baleen whale . . . with a calf! Daniel is an experienced and capable pilot, who handled his gorgeous helicopter expertly. He was an informative, conscientious trip leader. We saw a lone sperm whale and were even more impressed by a huge blue whale and calf, which we understand was a rare and exceptional experience. - Wanderer275369944471 contributionWe had an amazing sunny afternoon flight with Aaron. Thanks to Aaron’s flexibility we started an afternoon earlier to use the incredible weather. Spotted a Sperm Whale, a huge group of dolphins and seals sleeping on the coastal rocks. - Dreamer263342740191 contributionCal was a great pilot and the entire experience was easy from start to finish/ within 5 minutes we saw two Sperm Whales, we stumbled into hundreds of dolphins on the shore and then he sought out a giant Fin Whale. After seeing a sperm whale hanging out and ultimately diving as well as hundred of dolphins on a feeding frenzy, he dropped us off at the Mt Fyffe hut and we hiked 90 minutes to the top. - Augie D1 contributionThe pilot flew our small group right over a humpback whale that was putting on quite a display trying to impress a female or a male. He/she turned stomach side up on the surface slapping its pectoral fins (arms) on the top of the water. It turned back upright and then did it some more! The helicopter was able to circle over the whale clockwise and then reverse so people on each side of the ‘copter could get clear views and snap some once-in-a-lifetime images.
