  • The ranking of tours, activities, and experiences available on Tripadvisor is determined by several factors including the revenue generated by Tripadvisor from these bookings, the frequency of user clicks, and the volume and quality of customer reviews. Occasionally, newly listed offerings may be prioritized and appear higher in the list. The specific placement of these new listings may vary.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were booked into the Captain's Cabin so could see everything going on. Food and drink were provided and we sat back and relaxed in comfy chairs until we got out to the viewing area. The crew found a sperm whale on the surface and we had its company for about 5 - 10 minutes before it sounded - they then found another one for same sort of time. Everybody got "That" photo of the tail and all were buzzing. Last time we did the trip there were no whales - so we now have two. On way back in the crew were alerted to a pod of 250 plus dolphins of various types and we watched them for some time. Weather was good and the sea was pretty flat so trip was really great. Stormy weather came up later in the day so afternoon sailing may have been cancelled. But we had a great time, the crew were terrific, the whole thing was very professional but friendly and happy, and we saw whales - fantastic!

Whether you’re a rookie to kayaking or an expert this is the right experience for you.

I’ve only recently learned how to swim, was nervous at first with ocean kayaking which I’ve never done before. I felt secure and confident with our tour guide (Cam).

Guided both me and my wife, we were a bit slow at the start but very speedy towards the end after lots of practice.

Extreme expertise in identifying the wildlife. We got to see the Dolphins and Seals, and even got to hear some penguins. The Dolphins swam under and around our kayak. Overall I don’t think anyone could be disappointed with such a small and personal company, who takes photos free of charge and offered to drop us into town!

Can’t wait to continue kayaking back home in our local rivers.

Even though we were unable to go whale watching, because of bad weather our guide, Sally took very good care of us. Sally was genuine and shared interesting information. She is a good driver and made the trip enjoyable. We had coffee, shopped, ate lunch, went to a winery, and even stopped along the road to view a seal colony. Even though we couldn’t see the whales, it still was an interesting adventure. Sally made the trip worthwhile.

The half day trek was leisurely and mostly along the beach. Kevin (the llama boss) explained the llamas’ personalities and how to best lead them and gain their trust. Interesting sights along the way including seals relaxing on rocks just metres away.
We stopped for tea and cake which was in the llama’s backpack!
Just so heartwarming to have this time to bond with the beautiful llamas. They are quite docile and they don’t smell. And llamas DON’T spit!!

Diana did a good job touring us. She was open to stopping along the road if we saw wildlife. The dolphin tour was wonderful.

Kevin really showed our family a good time on this super fun llama trek for our whole family. The llamas were really cute and Kevin told us everything we needed to know to comfortably co-exist and walk the llamas. We had a great time, enjoyed some great laughs and got to know these splendid farm animals. Highly recommended when you're in Kaikoura!!!

Once (or twice) in a lifetime experience to see whales from above. Fantastic facility outside of town with super experienced pilot / guide who was great at supporting one of our group with a touch of anxiety. Whole experience was spot on. Don’t hesitate.

Dan took us on an incredible Whale/Dolphin - Heli Hike combo experience. After seeing a sperm whale hanging out and ultimately diving as well as hundred of dolphins on a feeding frenzy, he dropped us off at the Mt Fyffe hut and we hiked 90 minutes to the top. He met us there with an amazing hamper and bottle of champagne. We had the best time!

A gin tasting on top of a mountain - Why not!
Fabulous views, awesome helicopter ride & excellent gins & cheese platter. What’s not to enjoy.
Our group of three had perfect weather & thoroughly enjoyed this unique experience.
Very professional & personable staff. (Thanks to pilot Dan & Justine from Mount Fyffe Distillery).
    Highly recommend.

The tour was cancelled by Cheeky Kea Tours 2 months before the trip. I struggled to get a refund for the $5682.98 I had paid for my mother and myself. I had to resort to applying for a merchant refund through my bank to get the money back. It caused me a lot of stress, I only got the refund after 2 months. We were offered no decent alternative by Cheeky Kea Tours, as we wanted to do a 14 day South Island tour and go to some specific places. So we had to book a 14 day South Island tour with another company since the tour went to some of the places we wanted to go. As Cheeky Kea Tours just gave us 2 months notice that the tour would be cancelled, we lost the $299.23 we paid for flights to Christchurch. We had to pay for flights to Christchurch for the new tour we booked as it had different starting and ending dates from the Cheeky Kea Tour we originally booked.
