Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Easy to get to. Easy walking on well maintained track. Water was breathtaking. One of the bridges is currently closed but you can still get to go down to the water and get some good photos.

Stay at the shining star beachfront accommodation and its just a short walk over the road (although we drove as it was very cold). We were more in awe of this natural phenomenon than the child.

We recently completed the west coast wilderness trail as a group of two couples. From the outset Kiwi Journeys staff entire team were superb in every aspect of their organisation and commitment to ensure a great trip and experience. Their arranged accomodation was excellent especially at the Waterways (hokitika) and the hotel in Kumara. The entire trip was outstanding and my wife and I will definitely use this company again and certainly it has our full recommendation!

Quirky beach with the sculptures, loved it. Sculpture competition held every year so assume the artwork changes each year.

A beautiful lake with a pretty waterfall to go and view. Lovely grassy area with a jetty to jump off and swim. Water is really cold though, haha.

Went in late December after a night of heavy rain. A short and windy unsealed single lane road and a small carpark. It looks like it's beer coming over the side which is fun and unusual. You can carry on the same road and get back on the highway.

We stopped in here for morning tea during a recent three week SI road trip. We always carry a thermos of hot water and some coffee sachets with us on our travels.

This is a very beautiful spot. The weather was superb. There are a couple of tables with bench seats, we sat at one and there was another couple (who it turns out were from Melbourne in the SI on a whistlestop tour) at the other one.

It was such a lovely place to spend an hour or so, taking in the breathtaking view. The birdlife was amazing, with heaps of fantails flitting around and eating the sandflies on the wing. Didn’t seem to put much of a dent in the sandfly population but they are beautiful little birds.

The drive into the rest area on the track through native bush is really beautiful too.

Highly recommend this for a stop if you’re passing. It’s easy to find, just turn into the road opposite the Mahinapua Pub on SH6 (remember the Mainland Cheese ads on the tele??) and drive to the end of the road.

There are also very clean toilets at the site, thank you to the Council for providing such a great area to stop.

A nice wee cafe almost in the middle of nowhere (just when you are feeling like a coffee, this place appears!) and not only do they do eats and drinks they also sell local 'souvenirs' and things from the attached shop. But, on top of all that, you can buy the most delious fresh Westcoast Salmon. So nice!

If you are planning to cycle the NZ west coast wilderness trail we want to recommend West Coast Cycle and Tours. Donna and Scott were the best. Well organised, very friendly and thoughtful, nothing was a problem. EBikes were well maintained. Also very pleased part of the trip was two nights stay at Central Suites in Hokitika. Large double room, very clean, comfortable, modern and beautifully appointed. Great location 5 min walk to town and right next door to superb food and coffee at Bespoke. The first night at Ross and last night in Kumara Theatre Royal were great fun too. Thanks for a fantastic experience. 10/10

The 4/5 is actually a reflection on me and not the setup. I am scared of heights and found it very challenging. I was so focused on putting 1 foot in front of the other and holding on that I didn't appreciate the beauty of the setting. My husband stopped at each info point to read the fact sheet, but I just had to keep going. Once I got to the last section, I managed to relax and even walk back a bit to try and challenge myself more.
I didn't go up the tower nor out onto the cantilever part, but my husband did. He loved it all.
I had wrongly assumed that I would be amongst the trees, but most of it was quite open, and I just looked straight ahead or up. It's great that I could walk holding onto the sides, and the structure does feel very safe.
The café, toilets, and shop are great and I just wish I wasn't so pathetic because obviously heaps of effort has been put into making this a top quality attraction.

Fantastic place to stay, such welcoming hosts Cindy and Gavin. Cabins are well proportioned and all you need and very comfortable. Food was terrific thanks to Tony (chef)and his wife also a chef. Gavin took us on the trip up the river and its was sooooo interesting and great to see a white heron. Thoroughly recommend staying here.

We had the most wonderful experience thanks to the slick and personal service provided by the Cycle Journey team and their accommodation partners. While the trail has some stunning scenery, our highlights included the Mahinapua Water Ways tour, the Hokitika Gorge tour, and wonderful hosts Gavin and Cindy at Scenic Water Ways and Frances and Brian at Tiechelmann's. The trail is very manageable, and the e bikes provided were in great condition. Huge thanks to the Hokitika team of Dave and Clare who went above and beyond and helped us out when my wife had an accident. And not forgetting our driver Mike who was a bundle of knowledge on all things West Coast and one of the nicest guys you might meet. When we do the Alps to Ocean if will be a no brainer to choose Cycle Journeys again!

We took the Pancake Rocks tour. Efficient booking service and prompt answers to questions in connection with booking. Excellent commentary on local history etc. Looked after all members of the party very well and researched information when we had questions on, e.g., local plants, and provided us with answers. Would definitely book again with Rachel! A most enjoyable tour.
