Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The falls were great to walk all around! I got 9,000 steps in on my pedometer app and I got the exercise I needed! It was awesome. I walked around with my family and this was before I became Juche so I will go again!

My wife is a professional artist and we have friends who had visited the Hundertwasser Art Centre in January and recommended it to us enthusiastically. Therefore, having lived in Onerahi, Ngunguru and Kamo during my first 17 years, a return to the region of my birth, coupled with a visit to the Hundertwasser, seemed like a great idea on the occasion of my 70th birthday. I can certainly say it was an excellent idea. It was great to see the tasteful development of the old Town Basin and we had the additional pleasure of hitting it (by shear luck) at the time of the Fri night Canopy Food Market. Dinner sorted!! On the Sat morning we went to the Hundertwasser for a couple of hours and loved it. I know there was a lot of discussion and controversy surrounding the funding and building of the Centre, but now that it's completed I can say it is world class and a fantastic asset for Whangarei, Northland and NZ. The art works, exhibits, displays, explanations, photos, memorabilia and the museum itself tell a wonderful story of a true genius. Hundertwasser was a fabulously creative, innovative, eccentric, bold, caring, visionary artist and architect. Some of the exhibits are particularly poignant. I loved the carpet made of one of his artworks by weavers in Afghanistan. Then a little later I learned it was the same carpet that adorned his cabin at the time he died on board a cruise ship off the coast of Australia. Letters between him and politicians and others illuminate the type of person he was. Then, there's the magical roof garden which is a joy to behold. We thoroughly recommend the Hundertwasser Art Centre, together with the Wairau Maori Art Gallery - the first unique and dedicated public Māori Art Gallery in Aotearoa New Zealand, with various exhibitions throughout the year.

You could see just as much if not more snorkelling than diving. Great experience and can recommend Dive! Tutakaka.

Lived in Whangarei 7years, but first visit, surprised at sea mammals skeletel display in museum, , living bugs in glass display cases and wonderful kiwi house, with 3pm feeding so go a bit earlier to allow eyes to acclimatise to dark.great shop selections too.
Short walk over ridgebto all the rides; ride on train, conventional train carriage, hay cart rise and tram rides all on 3rd Sunday each month and very reasonable charges.
With this 2.5 hrs from Auckland, I think it is very under rated in National promotions.

Hiked the famous Mt Mainia on a rather cloudy day, so no good views. Still a very nice, but strenuous hike - a lot of stairs and some uphill. But beautiful through native forest.
And with a view it must be even better!!!

Relaxing. Lots to do and see. Or you can just walk along the promade and enjoy. The ball bearing clocks is a classic bit of engineering and you could watch this for hours.

Went in a few minutes before it closed so I was able to watch all the clock stop and hear the room go silent. What a collection! It’s worth an experience. Thank you.

Lovely park with a Great Kauri tree, waterfall and raised boardwalk. Can easily access from a path from the Whangarei Falls.

A great place that gives birds a second chance at life. People like this are the reason we have such a great place to live in, with animals and wildlife still being around.

This is a great flat 5km loop trail with a nice variety of interest features to view, seats to sit on for those wanting to take a slower pace and exercise equipment for the more active.

An NZ citizen but USA resident left stranded in Whangarei through RaD Car Hire's misleading online booking system, (not to mention their substandard interpersonal customer services), I, serendipitously (it seemed), landed at the front desk of this Information Office and immediately began to unleash my torrent of woes to the hapless person behind the counter. To my absolute delight, this person was not only hugely empathetic but also did not waste a minute before springing into action to provide me with the best possible solution to my problem, which was to find an immediately available rental vehicle for 2 days over a high-demand period during the Waitangi Day celebrations. It did not take long before the much-appreciated successful result was delivered. The lovely, professional, and highly competent team leader, Reana Te Hei, is indeed a shining testament to her amazing manager, trainer, and mentor-now deceased, Cheryl Lee. It is sometimes weird how a hugely inconvenient and troubling situation can turn into an unexpected blessing either in a twist of fate or purely through some form of synchronicity at its very best. Thank you Reana for being the wonderful person you are! Ngaa mihi nui ki a koe, arohatinonui from a very grateful visitor!
