Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

- Perry BSydney, Australia2,603 contributionsWe were able to come here and transmute the sad occasion of Mum's passing into a happier feeling of serenity and eternal peace. Rotokawau, the lake which Mum loved so much, was the perfect place for the family memorial gathering. We each said a few words about her and ushered her gracefully into the Great Beyond.Written 28 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - OhJoyManchester, UK46 contributionsA small black sand beach, with driftwood piled high at the back. Life guard is on watch during the day.
The beach is surrounded by a large, well-maintained reserve with toilets.
A childrens playground and campsite are to the left of the road.
Lovely place.Written 3 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We passed through many beautiful small villages perched on the river bank. The photo ops are amazing and the trip a great start to the day.
We had booked a 4 hour Bridge to Nowhere trip with Whanganui River Adventures. It started with a 32km jetboat ride up the river and then a 40 min tramp in the National Park to the amazing Bridge to Nowhere.
The track was easy going and multipurpose with it also being part of the Te Araroa (Cape Reinga to Bluff) Cycleway.
The bush and the river valley is pristine, beautiful and ancient. All bought fantastically alive with the knowledge of our local tour guide whose family has lived on the river and farmed the land in the Park for 6 generations.

- Fiona EColchester, UK169 contributionsThis is an amazing garden full of plants from all around the globe. Be warned the terrain is challenging so not suitable for those less steady on their feet. It is amazing that it is maintained by 1 man, the owner whose passion for plants is mainly for non flowering trees such as washingtonias conifers and cycads. Just an honesty box, and a hand drawn map that you can photograph at the entrance and basic toilet facilities… this garden is not open in order to make a profit but purely due to the owners generosity in sharing his creation with others. Perhaps would not be appreciated by non plants people. My only frustration was that the trees in the arboretum were often impossible to get close up to due to the terrain, and when I did manage to I could not find any labels.Written 22 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 422ianaDunedin, New Zealand3,611 contributionsMy daughter wanted an afternoon swim. After putting on my wetsuit, it took little time to adjust to the temperature of the water. It gets deep pretty quickly. There is an outside shower to wash yourself off by the car park.Written 5 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Bety24Te Kuiti, New Zealand77 contributions2km just up hill to viewpoint with small bench and amazing views. We did the track too: 13km mostly up and down up and down in forest, nice walk, little maintenance is needed. After 8km is small shelter with toilet, we didnt use it so dont know about condicion. Shame that after end you need to walk 2km on the road to the carpark. We did it in 5 hours, beginners need more but no 8 hours like is in the most of info about this track. From us solid 4/5Written 21 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
