Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- JElliot32New South Wales, Australia3,961 contributionsWe had some time to kill on a wet and windy afternoon in Whanganui and found the Glassworks (with two furnaces working to warm things up) offered an excellent escape from the wild weather. There is an observation deck above the working area from where we were able to observe three glassblowers busy at work. On the same level as the observation deck was a small gallery with some of their beautiful finished works on display.Written 13 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JElliot32New South Wales, Australia3,961 contributionsWhanganui's impressively large and domed Sarjeant Gallery in Queens Park has been undergoing renovations since 2014, and we were told it would be reopening in 2024. In the meantime, a tiny part of the gallery's collection is on display in a temporary gallery on Taupo Quay, across from the i-site. It is only a small site and it took us about 20 minutes to view. The giftshop here is quite small too - but what it lacks in size is made up for by the quality of their items on display.Written 20 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We are visiting from Ireland and spelt a lovely time with her and Katherine, such fun ladies and a font of local knowledge. We are delighted to have been able to purchase. Just a pity our luggage wouldn’t allow for more pieces!Written 16 February 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Linda GWellington, New Zealand19 contributionsHead to the back of this store for vehicles made of wood, as well as an extensive selection of wooden dollhouse furniture.
Nearer the front, pretty colors enhance the soaps encased in felt. These would make nice presents--the felt exterior acts like a loofah.
It opens at 10am on Sunday, before most other attractions.
The merchandise features craft rather than art work. It may offer more to locals in Whanganui than to visitors from afar.Written 15 December 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
