Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Karen CNapier, New Zealand73 contributionsWe enjoyed learning the history of the Waimarie and the Wanganui River. The paddle steamer itself is interesting and the crew are more than willing to explain.Written 6 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Cathie6 contributionsDeifintely a ‘Unique’ trip. As a group of friends we had a lot of fun however they forgot to bring tents and mattresses for our first night. This could have been disastrous as it was raining and the hut was full. Luckily the hut warden and another couple of people conjured up a few tents, but with little to sleep on and squashed in there was not much sleep. Next morning the river was in flood so we definitely appreciated having guides on the river. The food was good. The canoes were pretty battered by the end of the season and in need of a few repairs… which apparently gets done in the off season.Written 21 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Brian J1 contributionWe (2 adults, 2 pre-teen kids) had an AMAZING time doing the 'Nature Lovers' jet boat and canoe trip. The jet boat ride up the river was great fun, and the canoe back down was an unforgettable experience. While we had varying levels of experience (as little as having kayaked a couple of times), the trip is set up so that if you realise part-way along that you've overextended, you can opt to stop canoeing and get picked up. We felt very safe on the river, with the guides keeping an eye on us as they were heading up and down river in the jet boats regularly.Written 7 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Irving Family3 contributionsWhat lovely lovely people. We came off the river wet, cold & tired to lovely rooms, a hot shower and a cold beer.
These guys could not have done more for us & we had a great stay.
Highly recommended.Written 17 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Sam the affable skipper was a veritable mine of local history, enlightening information and amusing anecdotes. Highly recommended.Written 12 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Janice D2 contributionsReally enjoyed this walking tour with our fantastically knowledgeable 86-yr-old guide, Murray. I particularly liked hearing about the 'chain' measure, which I would have totally overlooked if not for having it pointed out, also the site of disgraced mayor Charles Mackay's office, as featured in "Downfall". The tour was well worth the $15 fee. A few minor suggestions to consider for inproving the tour: We were told of the locations of two toilet opportunities at the start of the tour - it would have been good to also point them out as we passed them by. Also, we were on our feet for a good two hours - consider having a five minute sit down while guide gives overview eg in seating circle at Maria Place? Also, perhapsconsider giving people an option of sitting out a portion of the tour eg sitting in foyer of sargeant gallery while tour goes upstairs? I was ok but I can imagine some walkers might appreciate a little rest. Cook's Gardens was a little confusing as it wasn't spelt out that this former stockade was now a sports facility. However, these are all small points, and overall it was marvellous, thank you.Written 12 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - HookachuckaNew Zealand2 contributionsTracy of Whanganui Tours is fantastic and made our trip very special. All the information provided was very good and there were no unpleasant surprises on our trip. Tracy went above and beyond to ensure we had a good time. Our accommodation was as expected and the meals provided were great, especially the ones provided by Linda (definitely an 11 out of 10). Junior at Pipiriki was a superb host and was another highlight on our trip. A locator beacon was provided which was great for peace of mind as some areas of the trail are extremely remote.Written 3 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Anthony wrightDrury, New Zealand12 contributionsJason, from take it easy Tours was absolutely brilliant to deal with.
I can't speak highly enough of this company.
We required two buses for our family reunion this labour weekend.
Mark and Tony arrived ahead of time and were ready to transport our whanau to Raetihi and the Ohakune.
As it turned out a large number of our family decided to take their own transportation.
We ended up only requiring the 49 seater so Tony took the new 35 seater bus back to the take it easy depot.
Mark was brilliant so he is so much more than just a bus driver.
His commentary along the way was very informative and interesting as he really knows the area very well.
After we had lunch at Ohakune he picked up the we had more places of interest and volunteered to take us all to Pipiriki and the to Jerusalem.
So take it easy Tours really did go above and beyond for us and our bus load of family will never forget it.
Thank you so much.Written 6 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Amazing professionals. Great team. I saw nothing but smiles from the groups. Confession time: Wasn't actually part of their tour. But Reina took care of us anyway. Him and the other tour guides were a wonderfully friendly presence on the river, generous with tips on how to navigate the rapids and kindly fishing out people from their failed attempts. Was an honour to share the river alongside them. P.S: you will be very well-fed and looked after! And enjoy local history and latest news too.Written 4 February 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Value4moneyRotorua, New Zealand117 contributionsFantastic walking tour taylormade for 6 of us for 1 hour. Highly recommend our guide Kylie. We asked for only a 60min option. This was so informative and covered a variety of topics and sites. With elderly folk in tow was nice to stop were seats were and was not too far a field. This is a must do......Written 6 June 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
