What travellers are saying
- Richard Kempthorne1 contributionThis was a wonderful experience. There was quite a variety of types of mountain biking with solid uphill, reasonably technical downhill, "The Steps", the Graveyard and wonderful West Coast bush forest to enjoy. The highlight was the open shower at the Rough and Tumble Lodge and pizza at the end of the ride.Written 9 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Simon DAuckland, New Zealand645 contributionsWe were a little pressed for time, so broke the walk up by driving from Tauranga Bay to Cape Foulwind lighthouse track. The track up was good to get the blood pumping although not a difficult walk. The only disappointing thing is I could not find any track access to the lighthouse itself.
Good carpark and toilet facilities here which were quiet when we visited. Great views along the way.
The full track is I expect a longer walk of an hour or two, but the walk to the lighthouse from the carpark is probably only 30 mins return.Written 25 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Simon DAuckland, New Zealand645 contributionsA short walk from the Tauranga Bay carpark will see you at a viewing platform where you can see some of the local seals. The view back to Tauranga Bay was also beautiful.Written 25 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.

- Jenny MNapier, New Zealand14 contributionsMy husband and I visited Westport I-Site yesterday to get some local knowledge on bird life & found the man on duty very keen to assist & answer our questions. (Unfortunately the weather wasn't in our favour).
Many leaflets & books on the area eg. Denniston Incline. Local coal made into reasonably-priced souviners.
Not sure why they were selling stuffed-toy alpacas though???
We plan to go through the Coaltown Museum there tomorrow before we leave. :-)Written 6 December 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Rigger ReidTimaru, New Zealand123 contributionsThis place is a must to visit, tar seal road all the way to the top,
was so interesting how they mined for the coal and sent it down the hill, stunning views from the top of the plateau
Lots of information to read would have been an incredible working site.Written 13 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Jacqueline C29 contributionslove seeing so many beautiful pieces of art on display that have been created by people all over the world. inspiring!Written 19 December 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- mummakookWollongong, Australia385 contributionsWe were after somewhere scenic to eat our lunch and stumbled upon this place. There were very few people around, just us and the seagulls for the most part. Also popular for walking and cycling, and restricted freedom camping, it was a cool place to spend a bit of time.Written 1 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.

- Mitch B1 contributionRented two bikes with a buddy for Old Ghost Road. Couldn't have been more sorted out by Adrian. Took the time to fit us to the bikes with the kit fitted.
