Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Andrew SLiphook, UK87 contributionsI spent one of my two days on Stewart Island taking three trips run by Furhana of RaggedyRange. A seabird spotting trip for a couple of hours (Inc three kinds of Albatross, little blue penguins and a massive flock of Sooty Sheerwater then half a day on Ulva island (nearly all the birds you'd go to see were seen), then kiwi spotting after dark - and yes we saw a kiwi.
Furhana is passionate about natural history and conservation. She has encyclopedic knowledge of the wildlife on Stewart Island. She wants all her clients to have the best time and the best chance of seeing what you want. She is very much a "quality not quantity" guide.
So, to get the best out of whatever you book, respect her and her experience and above all respect nature. If you want to walk on a trail for an hour chatting away to your friends, you will scare the wildlife off and see nothing.
It's clear that some folk who've posted reviews dislike her manner and/or style. In my view it is an enormous privilege to go on these tours and see wonderful wildlife, some of which is critically endangered. I'd recommend this company any day of the week.Written 19 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Al has a very special talent for sharing his knowledge of the skies in a fashion that is deeply informed, always helpful, and full of enthusiasm shared with his guests. He paints the skies with a laser pointer and offers binoculars and a stunning view through his superb telescope. And the logistics are flawless, from pickup to drop-off: on our somewhat chilly night, he provided wool blankets, hot water bottles, and delicious real hot chocolate! The tour makes the stars in our galaxy seem almost within arm's reach. Truly a magnificently memorable experience! Great service both ways on the stewart Island Ferry (It was perfect conditions ).
We had an extremely enjoyable bus trip to some of the loveliest places on the populated part of the Island with our tour guide and bus driver RHYS , he has a very comfortable informative manner and likes a bit of chit chat , it was a fantastic introduction to the Experience , thank you RHYS.
Also the ferry trip to Ulva Island with our to Guides was a most interesting with a very enjoyable and educational walk through the lovely natural regenerating bush on very easy to walk tracks there were a lot of encounters with the beautiful birdlife.
