- beffffffAshburton, New Zealand13 contributionsWe did this tour for my birthday a few days ago as a group of friends and have been looking forward to it since we booked at the start of July. From booking and arranging taxis from an air bnb on the outskirts of town, to the service at check in the team were awesome to deal with.
The trip itself was absolutely amazing. The commentary during the flight was informative, with really fantastic views, and the cruise was absolutely stunning from start to finish, again with great commentary.
We got to see 3 seals, 2 in the water and one resting on the rocks. That was an extra we weren’t expecting.
Weather wise it was a dry, sunny day, which is really what we wanted, as we had more to do once we were back at base, but I would probably also go back on a rainier day just to see the waterfalls in full flow. Even on a dry day they were impressive.
The only negatives from the whole day were the taxi being about half an hour late (not the tour organisers fault), so we barely had time to get checked in and to the safety briefing, and that we were on one of the planes where all the seats aren’t window seats, which I had hoped would not be the case, and on the flight back I was unfortunately put in a middle seat along with another member of our group, so couldn’t see as much of the scenery, especially myself being very short.

Definitely recommend catching helicopter or plane back from Milford Sound as the views were incredible 100% better by air! - Hayley HUnited Kingdom24 contributionsThe coach set off promptly with a great driver, Arnold? He gave a wonderful chilled commentary throughout the journey and made plenty of scenic stops and toilet breaks along the way. The boat cruise and scenery was fantastic. We even saw baby seals! It did say a lunch was provided but on the boat they didn’t have any recollection of that in spite of my booking saying it was included. The staff on the boat quickly rectified it and gave us 4 packed lunches thankfully. The fly back was great too, the kids loved it, although it was quite scary for me and felt like flying around in a crisp packet in the wind. I was glad when we landed. The pilot (Hank) was great though and clearly very experienced in tricky weather conditions. Our pilot, Emma Penney, was awesome & Air Milford made the experience as seamless & enjoyable as possible.
The views from the flight & during the cruise are astounding, honestly an emotional experience that my wife & I will never forget.

His expertise in the Captain’s Chair along with an abundant knowledge of the area made for a marvellous flight. Tom, who speaks fluent NZ English, passed on details of the lay of the land – clearly – as we flew over this most magnificent natural landscape.
It was fortunate that our flight occurred on a fine November day. Not too many clouds.
We highly recommend this awesome New Zealand experience and thanks again to Tom and the team at Air Milford.

The team did absolutely everything they could to arrange my flight, the pilots were fantastic and incredibly knowledgable and I was so impressed with the effort that was put in to make my flight possible. Our pilot, Antony Spoull, did a terrific job preparing us for the slight turbulence and pointing out some interesting facts about the spectacular scenery.
