What travellers are saying
- KiwiseleyAuckland Central, New Zealand390 contributionsWe started at the Te Anau side and it was all downhill from there. Not sure why the tunnel has so much of a slope, but I suggest you tell the kids that is was designed and named after Homer Simpson. The "jagged" edges and relatively narrow tunnel means that you need to focus on drivingWritten 20 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Janene878Auckland Central, New Zealand59 contributionsGreat tour which I would highly recommend. The staff were friendly, helpful and the guide at the Observatory was very knowledgeable.Written 19 February 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- KiwiseleyAuckland Central, New Zealand390 contributionsThis is one of New Zealand's great road trips. We had done this once before, but largely as a way of getting to Milford Sound. This time it was more about the stops along the way. The Mirror Lakes are very pretty and there are many walks and scenic stops. Do your research and you should come up with an itinerary that suits you.Written 19 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- KiwiseleyAuckland Central, New Zealand390 contributionsIt's wonderful that NZ has so many great views that I can only give this a "Very Good"
We went through the area when is was a little overcast, but you still get a sense of the beauty of the area. Whether you stop of not, this is still a nice place to have been.Written 19 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - JenlsBirkenhead, New Zealand12 contributionsWe got a close up view of these falls while on our Milford Sound cruise - flying into Milford with Milford Sound Scenic Flights. Our captain on Mitre Peak cruises was able to get in close to many of the falls and other scenic attractions on our cruise around Milford Sound - thoroughly enjoyed the trip!Written 29 July 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Zen_LynnLAuckland, New Zealand6 contributionsGet on a cruise to experience the water up close and personal. One of the best highlights on the cruise we had!Written 19 March 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Stu TTauranga, New Zealand163 contributionsA great view and every time I've stopped there has always been Kea (make sure you don't feed them though).
But in the scheme of Milford Sound spots, it's not right at the top, so don't linger if you're pressed for time. We weren't though, so really enjoyed having a long stop.Written 26 October 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Tim & Tina_Y476 contributionsIts quite a long way to drive from the nearest town to Milford Sound, and most part of the road are single lane without much space for stop. It is nice to take a break to enjoy the open space at Monkey Creek, especially when we were travelling during Winter.
It was very crowded when we were there, as there were many tour groups also making their stops there.Written 6 June 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Katie DBrighton and Hove, UK375 contributionsWent on the Jucy cruise, seeing these falls from the boat was stunning, you are taken to many different falls, the staff are very knowledgeable and it is definitely a must do whilst you are there. When it is/ has been raining they really look impressive.Written 19 February 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Pamela MBendigo, Australia55 contributionsYou can get a good photo of the bridge and river. When we walked across the bridge it moved and squeaked.Written 13 September 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.

- Lachie1 contributionWe spent an epic day diving with the Team from Descend Dive.
Milford sound is such a diverse and unique spot that is just as impressive underwater! We experienced amazing Black Corals, inquisitive Blue Cod, countless Crayfish and many Spiny Dogfish Sharks at Penguin Cove and Cray's Crack.
Lance (skipper) and Zac (instructor) are incredibly knowledgeable and are very experienced in Milford Sound. As a scientist, Zac was able to answer all questions we had and provided thorough briefings on the flora and fauna in the sound.
I cant recommend this enough to anyone who wants to take their Milford Sound experience to the next level!Written 9 February 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Julian Brinkman2 contributionsWe had an amazing kayak tour with a really nice tour guide Austin. He told us a lovely story about the what the Maori believe to be the origin of Milford Sound. It was such an amazing sight from the water. I highly recommend this trip it was amazing. Loved all the waterfalls in the rain..
