Such an easy and beautiful drive with stunning scenery. And I got to see Seal Lions lazing on the beach. AMAZING

Beautiful building which unfortunately is currently all wrapped as it’s under going restoration. Even so the architecture you can see is wonderful. The interior is also well worth visiting as it’s a work of art.
Also there is what I would say, one of the best art galleries upstairs which has a fantastic array of local artists on display and is free to look around and you can buy a masterpiece to go home with.

Sadly I didn’t have enough time to fully explore the gardens so intend returning. It’s unbelievable what a family has achieved in reviving this stunning property. It’s important to explore both the castle and the gardens.

The albatross centre is amazing. Before going I knew nothing about these amazing birds but I've left being completely obsessed! The tour was great, lots of information was given about albatross and their conservation in a really enjoyable way. We were lucky enough to see 7 albatross chicks and an adult coming in to land. We got much closer than we expected in the hide and it was really magical to see these birds in their natural habitat.

I have been to a few museums in my time but this one has blown me away. Authentic and appropriate for our times this museum celebrates the resilience of all settlers to this windswept challenging part of the world. The stories of Maori settlement and early Europeans looking for fortunes and freedom are beautifully woven together to embrace true manaakitanga. I loved the ride on the penny farthing bike too! Just saying!

Beautiful smooth track descending down to the point. Note: not for the weak heart on the way up lol Take your time just strolling both ways along the track, take in the views! THEY'RE AMAZING!!
Getting to walk through the tunnel down onto the private beach amoung some massive boulders was worth my dying thighs & lungs (be sure to be aware of tides if going down to the beach) lol even more so if you have read the history behind it :)
Take caution if you go on a slightly windier day, wear comfy foot/grippy footwear & spray jacket if you plan to go near the edge because the waves send buckets of sea spray up & over if the winds heading the right direction.
All in all, Stunning place to visit if ever in the Dunedin area!

Maia the kaitiaki/guide was a wealth of knowledge and passion for ecology and this experience. We were lucky to see the release of two penguins after they had spent time recovering at the centre,a yellow crested penguin in recovery, sea lions, little penguins nesting in their boxes, a male penguin surf in then make his way to his nest and incredible sunset scenes over the Moana.

Very impressed on all the free galleries but do pay the extra to get access to the science centre and planetarium! Two adults cost $30 and we were entertained for over two hours looking at the exhibits. Went right at opening on Sunday and had the science centre practically to ourselves - for about 20 min, which meant we could ride the three storey slide with no kids around lol!

Butterfly exhibit was so cool. We were there for the release of the newly hatched butterflies and got to hold one and take pics. Very humid in there but there are cubby holes outside to hold your jackets.

The planetarium show at 10:30 was a brief 15 min showcase of whatever people in the audience wanted to see. (Jupiter, Milky Way, Saturn…) very cool

The animal attic was quite interesting and loved the weird and wonderful artwork.

    Great gift shop.

Kaka's, Takahe's, black robins all only two metres close to me! So very stunning to walk along the pathways and see nature at its best. Friendly staff and my kids absolutely love it.

We enjoyed the walk around the well set out gardens. The area appears to be larger due to the well set out planting areas.
    A most worthwhile relaxing visit

The locals sneered at our enthusiasm to visit Baldwin Street, stating that there are many steep streets in Dunedin. But there is something significant about walking up THE steepest street in the WORLD. Although it lost its title in 2019 to a challenger in North Wales, it regained its status from the Guinness Book of Records in April 2020. Steep it is and definitely worth a visit! We were the only 2 people there at the time and enjoyed meandering to the top where there is a mural, water drinking fountain and bench (in desperate need of repainting).

If you are wanting panoramic views of Dunedin and the Otago Peninsula, drive to the top of Signal Hill. There is parking at the top and an extensive lookout area. There is a large monument with 2 bronze statues commemorating the NZ Centennial.

We took the Argo tour as a family - 2 adults, 2 young kids (6&8). Had the most amazing experience - up close encounters with seal & penguins as well as world class views and expert tourists. So brilliant! Worth every penny. Highly recommended! Plus going in an Argo was fun!!!!
