Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- GusYChatswood, Australia48 contributionsA short drive from Dunedin City is Larnach Castle, sitting atop south west of the city centre. At the time of our visit, the left side of the castle was undergoing renovations and was inaccessible. Entry was reduced to $30 per adult, and children entered for free. Unfortunately, it was raining the day we went, so we didn’t get to explore the beautifully manicured gardens. The castle has a rich history, with lovely period furnishings dating back to the late nineteenth century. The owners did their best to restore the castle, and they did a magnificent job reviving it for tourism. Despite the weather, we had a pleasant time learning about the history of William Larnach and his family, all the way to the present owners. It’s worth a visit when in Dunedin.Written 3 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Stephen Y K SHong Kong, China86 contributionsThe Otago Peninsula, located on New Zealand’s South Island, is renowned for its rich wildlife and stunning natural landscapes. Visitors can observe royal albatrosses, blue penguins, and dolphins, visit the historic Larnach Castle, and enjoy beautiful beaches and tranquil villages. It is prefect for nature lovers and eco-tourism adventures.Written 8 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Smcnaugh9 contributionsEasily the best museum we have visited both in NZ and overseas and very easy to spend 3 hours in without noticing. The only other museum that comes close is the main Dunedin museum which has a fantastic interactive science section.Written 15 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ChrissiSunshine Coast, Australia25 contributionsThe staff were lovely and managed our expectations about what we would see on the day. Liz, our guide was very knowledgeable on the topic of birds and shared her knowledge freely. It was blowing a gale on the day we went, so make sure your hats are tight fitting. The indie cafe was well priced and the food was great.Written 29 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Bob H84 contributionsA nice museum concentrating on wildlife in the Otago area. There was an excellent exhibition of award winning photography. It was a real shame that none of these photos were available to buy copies as prints. The highlight of our visit was the planetarium which was brilliant.Written 7 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DENISE TNewcastle, UK381 contributionsThis is a very steep climb but well worth the effort.... As parents we walked the hill whereas the younger ones ran with their back packs - oh no not for me!!!
Bit of a shame that there is nothing to say you've achieved this - no certificate to buy, poster/sticker as a memento.... Just a thought as we would have loved thisWritten 22 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MatthewKetchikan, AK6 contributionsI booked the Argo Wildlife Tour through my cruise ship, and it was absolutely fantastic!! The guides were super knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna. It was really cool to learn about the local area on the Otago Peninsula. Riding in an Argo was also really cool. I went in the afternoon, and by the time that the tour was coming to a close, it was getting to be sunset, and the views were absolutely incredible. I would very much recommend going on a tour with them.Written 6 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - kelly11584Auckland Central, New Zealand175 contributionsI went with my brother and nephew as they were showing me Dunedin as I never been there before. It was great market as it was easy to walk around with a pram and we went around the whole way because I got to see the whole things. There was a lot of different stalls and we got some flowers. I got to try my first cheese rolls and it was very good. I would go again and maybe try more food.Written 11 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Jeffry bEssendon, Australia13,582 contributionsDunedin Railway Station is a result of one of the richest mining industries in New Zealand. Dunedin is a prosperous city in the south of New Zealand's South Island, it's worth a visit to look around the city's railway highlights. These days, there's a beautiful restaurant that occupies part of the former railway station. Dunedin is an historic city, it's well worth a sight-seeing tour.Written 3 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
