Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The only reason this attraction has been marked "very good" instead of "excellent" is because of the renovations taking place that are temporarily hampering activity and display within. Still well worth a visit as these "Happy Hens" go all around the world.

If your on a NZ cruise your ship will most likely berth at Port Chalmers for Dunedin. Before rejoining the ship take a few minutes to visit this gallery. It's only five minutes walk from the wharf entrance. Cross the street & turn left at the next corner. The Flying Whale is just a few doors up the road. A gallery displaying works by a local artist. Very whimsical offerings. Cards, prints, originals & many transferred to clothing & things like tote bags. Not your usual run of the mill souvenirs. I loved it & bought a print. Would have purchased more but it's all I have room to display at home.

If you are a magpie when it comes to beautiful jewellery you must have a look here. Wonderful service by a knowledgable and extremely helpful young lady. She totally let me play with al the jewellery there was no snobbery that is sometime found in such a well stocked art gallery. Walked out with the most gorgeous ring from a local artist. Lovely to take home a wee bit of Otago with me.

I love books and I love this place. I do a yearly trip to Dunedin just to spend a few hours perusing the stock in the store (which is not available online = clever move). While I have particular interests I always leave with titles I never knew I wanted. What more do you need?

This is a small shop loaded with all things from Scotland and great souvenirs. We bought many items there and enjoyed our experience. The lady who worked there was very helpful in finding the correct plaid we needed for my husband’s family. We were happy that we came to this shop and was pleasantly surprised at all of the items they had available. So glad we popped in!

I stumbled upon Rata when walking through the mall and from the outside it looked like another boutique NZ inspired jewelry store with unaffordable high prices but after looking a bit closer I was incredibly impressed. There were so many beautiful, unique pieces that were actually cheaper than most chain stores. I fell in love with a beautiful feather pendant and the owner was more than obliging for me to buy the pendant as I had a favourite chain at home I wanted to put it on. I will totally be going back whenever I'm in town to check out their latest designs :) Thank you guys!

    This is a great space.
We had been to Peter Gregory’s gallery in Waikouaiti and were pleased to see more of his work.
The quality of the ceramics was very high with well priced pieces.
We always like to buy a locally made ceramic piece as our ‘souvenir ‘ when travelling abroad.

Shopped Avoca Face Musk and Eye Gel. For the same price, we enjoyed service here, specially by a young clerk girl, named Tina, who grows up in New Zealand and speaks both Chinese and English very well to give us details introduction and quite clear comparison between products.

Great shop with lots of local and NZ products for sale. You can take as long as you wish to browse without anyone pressuring you to purchase. A great variety of gifts to be found.

Walked in on an ordinary cold day in Dunedin after seeing the beautiful shop window full of chocolates. The husband / wife were former dairy farmers up in North Island, and have brought their talents at fudge making to this store, where you can sit and be warm whilst learning about life in Dunedin. Very warm hospitality, and friendly owners...plus great hot chilli chocolate. Recommend highly
