Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

- Lenny HAuckland, New Zealand952 contributionsAn incredible range of flowers in spring. Simply stunning. The water gardens are an absolute must. The size of some of the trees is amazing. Worth more than one visit.Written 31 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Phil NCootamundra, Australia306 contributionsWith our friends we enjoyed exploring Christchurch on these old trams - some originally from Sydney. The old advertising from yesteryear that was still in some carriages added to the charm. We first did a full lap of the city then returned top various locations we chose to get off at.
The staff were friendly and informative, and all in all a memorable day was had.Written 8 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The backstage penguin experience was wonderful to see the penguins up close and hear all the information on the penguins including work being done in the wild to protect them.Written 23 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lenny HAuckland, New Zealand952 contributionsA must - even if only out of respect for the people of Christchurch and the emergency workers. The video documentaries are hard hitting. If you take kids (not really something I’d recommend you take kids to), please keep them quiet.Written 31 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sandy WVancouver, Canada1,773 contributionsWe spent several hours walking on the wooden and dirt paths slowly throughout the park. What a delight it was! There are birds everywhere. And not just sparrows. There are attractive and easy to read signs all over the place detailing the unique animal species that are located at Willowbank. There are pond areas and water areas everywhere.
It was a delight to see the children feeding the eels as soon as you walk into the park after paying admission. We caught the latter part of the magic show and loved it. There is a small little-used lunch area with picnic tables behind the magic show, and adjoining the toilets.
A great place for families. Easy to walk. Children love the smaller and larger animals, Especially the birds that are often roaming freely.
You can purchase a bag of small food to feed the birds and also a different bag of larger food pellets to feed the larger animals such as the deer. Make sure to purchase these small white bags when you buy your admission as they are not available elsewhere in the park.
And, yes, we were able to spot two kiwis in the darkened kiwi shelter. It was magical.
Thank you, Willowbank, for a delightful day. Please give me a link if you find this review helpful. You can also look for reviews that I have written for Christchurch, Auckland and Wellington as well as Brisbane.Written 16 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. If you walk around the Botanic Gardens you will see the permanent museum being renovated/rebuilt as the museum backs onto the Gardens.Written 12 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Many park benches, both in the sun and shade.Written 31 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Michael CDerby, UK1,980 contributionsWithin an easy drive from Christchurch, this is a very beautiful area, especially as you approach Akaroa. The road winds across the hills in a series of zigzags with great view all around. Little River is a great place to stop along the way.Written 30 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TR3SSEmerald, Australia61 contributionsMy 3 year old loved this playground and found plenty to do!
There's definitely a few pieces of equipment better suited to older kids but we managed 90mins here and still had to pry our daughter away at lunch time!
The food trucks are brilliant and offer parents and caregivers a coffee or snack.
A bit of shade might be nice especially during sunnier days!Written 22 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Was such a great experience to get up close to Reggie and learn all about him from the keepers Caitlin and Colin. Also loved seeing the only Gorillas in NZ. The giraffes were another favourite and feeding time with the lions.Written 26 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - dlrobinsAuckland Central, New Zealand91 contributionsWe stumbled on this amazing property when searching for things to do. What a surprise to find this on our doorstep. We took the guided tour. Janet was our guide and she was fantastic. So knowledgeable about the property and knew all the history. It was also explained what were original items from the family and what were reproductions. We found this really good to get more of an understanding of the family and feel of the place. We stayed for lunch which was really good and wondered around the huge well-maintained gardens. So pleased we visited. Would highly recommend the guided tour.Written 1 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lenny HAuckland, New Zealand952 contributionsDefinitely worth seeing if you’re there. The concept of the church is impressive and is a credit to the resilience of the Christchurch people. Not worth going out of your way to visit it.Written 31 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- C MAuckland Central, New Zealand840 contributionsThis is not massive but it's a nice enough beach with some interesting rocks for some cool scenery. Some eateries right near the beach too if you are feeling peckish. Very popular, especially in summer of course.Written 19 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
