Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Janice_travels_lushWhangarei, New Zealand189 contributionsThe avenues of mature trees put on an amazing display of autum colours. So many old favorites: oaks, maples, ginkgo, plain ... Leaves crunchy underfoot and children running and throwing leaves into the air. Nice glass houses with tropical specimens.Written 14 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Foodies2travel11 contributionsThe park's beauty is breathtaking, with lush green lawns, towering trees, and vibrant flower beds that change with the seasons. Nature enthusiasts will love the diverse range of flora and fauna, as well as the picturesque Avon River that winds its way through the park, creating serene spots for picnics or quiet reflectionWritten 6 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Michael CDerby, UK1,981 contributionsWithin an easy drive from Christchurch, this is a very beautiful area, especially as you approach Akaroa. The road winds across the hills in a series of zigzags with great view all around. Little River is a great place to stop along the way.Written 30 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Taylor R1 contributionI grew up in Riccarton so was always vaguely aware of the history of the house and bush, but never in detail. I had Marina as my tour guide and she gave me an EXCELLENT tour, super informative, friendly, and knowledgeable. The very definition of going above and beyond. Definitely get along for the tour, it really humanizes the family and you learn a lot of detail about the history of the area.Written 11 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Julia @Scrumptious SolentSouthampton, UK4,292 contributionsA lovely green oasis in the city, this is a super river to walk along and enjoy seeing the botanic gardens, statues, people punting on the river - and a bit of wildlife too. We enjoyed seeing the longfin eels peeping out from the shadows - very large and impressive!Written 25 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ExploringLifeMoama, Australia2,192 contributionsWe were staying close by and decided to see if it looked as good in the flesh as on the Net. It was very appealing. We had a great night, ate at a marvellous restaurant, and observed and soaked up a good atmosphere, Many cafes would be open in the morning, where as the restaurants are open in the evenings. Great street to go and drink coffee, eat, or have a drink in.Written 9 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sandy WVancouver, Canada1,773 contributionsAfter visiting the Christchurch Farmers Market on a beautiful Sunday morning, we walked over to Mona Vale Park. There were hardly any visitors in the park, albeit a very warm day of 31°C. The rose garden is beautiful. Take a walk along the river and see ducks. Sit on a bench and have lunch.Written 20 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

The lady at the counter was very helpful and gift-wrapped my purchases really thoughtfully - I was getting gifts for kids and she checked in about their ages to make sure the wrapping paper wasn't too childish. Great service :)Written 15 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Kor MBrisbane, Australia191 contributionsWe had a wonderful morning with James, who is friendly and informative. The area around Lake Coleridge is stunning, and we were keen to experience it in a different way. We’re not regular horse folk but James gives a thorough preparatory presentation so even novices like us will enjoy the experience. Great fun. Thoroughly recommend.Written 13 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- caroNew Lynn, New Zealand3 contributionsHad a great time doing this zipline in Christchurch's Port Hills Adventure Park. Our guides were super (Jarred and Jake). They were very safety conscious making sure we knew exactly what to do but at the same time gave us confidence and lightened the mood for those like me who were a bit scared at the first zipline start off. By the third one I was hooked. I would definitely recommend this activity if you enjoy doing something a bit different. Great views and adrenaline rush! Thanks to the wonderful guides again.Written 18 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
