Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The staff were really helpful, giving lots of interesting facts. It was a great day out with lots to do and see for the whole family. The backstage penguin experience was wonderful to see the penguins up close and hear all the information on the penguins including work being done in the wild to protect them.

With our friends we enjoyed exploring Christchurch on these old trams - some originally from Sydney. The old advertising from yesteryear that was still in some carriages added to the charm. We first did a full lap of the city then returned top various locations we chose to get off at.
The staff were friendly and informative, and all in all a memorable day was had.

Small museum with lots of information and history of the earthquakes of 2011.
The displays were confronting and the stories from people who experienced the earthquakes were emotional.
Well worth taking a seat and listening to all of their stories. Don't rush through it all.

We were looking for something to stop over on our drive up the coast and even the New Zealanders hadn't been here before. Thought it would be a quick drop in, but ended up spending a couple of hours wondering through the museum - reading all the history and looking at all the aircraft and amazing displays. The whole family (grandparents through teenage kids) enjoyed it. Also enjoyed having a coffee and a bite of lunch in the cafe (very good variety and excellent food). And, of course, found a couple of items in the gift shop that were unique purchases. It was an unexpected find and well worth the stop. Free admission, but easy to make a donation either in person or on-line which was also appreciated.

This building is quite special as it is made from cardboard but when you are inside all you see is an amazing cathedral. Very innovative and wonderful

I've never been much taken by the design of this building. Brilliant outside, but the inside has no flow and surprisingly little display space. But it's well worth a visit at the moment for the really excellent 'From here on the ground'. If much modern art with it's political messaging, its videos and its repetitious themes isn't for you then you'll probably enjoy this brilliantly-curated exhibition of New Zealand urban landscapes, many from the mid-20th century or earlier. While there's a number of artists you'd expect to see (Rita Angus for example) many, it's probably fair to say, are little known. There is a large range of pieces in various styles, all brilliant and redolent of their time and place. Highly recommended.

What a find. Definitely recommend the sunrise soak . I arrived early so had time to walk out to the board walk. Purchase ticket on line and staff are very well organised and run the session perfectly and incredibly informative . You are provided with a kombucha shot and mock tail as part of the experience. You can purchase a locker with credit card but most people used cubby holes near the pools . Great steam and sauna room with a view. They also did a meditation session if inclined. Enough room for everyone to sit in surroundings. Mixture of solo, couples and friends at the sessions. Excellent changing faculties with hot showers and cossie dryer as well . Can’t wait to come back again

This museum has an extraordinary collection. Whaetever your area of interest - weapons, war, music, gardening, fishing, bushcraft, weaving, carving, building, smithing, colonial history, Māori history - you will find something to fascinate here. It is not uncommon to see an adze in a museum. It is uncommon to see the adze lashed to a wodden handle with a flax rope in a way that shows how it was held and how it worked, with an accompanying picture. The kereru snare is a highlight - it really shows you how they work. This museum is not flashy, but it is a gem. Worth travelling out of your way to visit. Good coffee and pie at the store, and a walk on the beach make a half day well spent.

Went to "Something Rotten" a great show with top standard actors who really displayed their range of skills as well as great costumes and sets. You have to be quick to catch all the one liners and some background in musicals adds to the experience but definitely isnt a prerequisite. Its been way to long since I've been to the court theatre but will be going back soon after this experience.

Came across this quite by accident. A beautiful building, still being renovated but you can wander round. The inner courtyard is beautiful. The Ernest Rutherford 'Den' is also worth doing but is quite complex. The little cinema looked great if you time your visit right! Lovely little cafe Bunsen close by, definitely worth a visit. The huge stained glass window in the main hall is fabulous too. There's a Wine Cellar tucked in too which I think we'll probably investigate more before we leave!
It's not a long visit here, you can spend under 2 hours and see it all, but an interesting place.

Nice theater with Classical European design. I saw a performance where most of the people were old dressed in Rock ‘n’ Roll outfits.

We climb often at our hometown and had a great time climbing here. Friendly staff, serious about safety and a whole variety of routes for beginner to advanced. Will come again next time we're in Chch.
