But what really made the tour amazing was our guide, Anuj, who was extremely considerate and helpful.
From ensuring we had water bottles and snacks after trekking, to providing detailed commentary and helpful tips for the treks, to helping me find a Kea, he was always went above and beyond in ensuring our comfort!
Even when the weather turned rainier and windier than we expected, he was well prepared with umbrellas and ponchos! Sunday (Edoras filming location) was canceled due to extreme weather conditions. Our driver, Cheryl, volunteered to take us the following day even though they hadn't planned to do a tour then. Our tour was amazing! Cheryl is a great and knowledgeable guide and the scenery is stunning. It was an incredible trip and I'm so thankful they worked to make it happen for us. I highly recommend this tour whether you're a fan of the Lord of the Rings or not! After leaving a sunny Christchurch we enjoyed the TranzApline rail journey to arrive at a very wet Arthur’s Pass. Mandy made it clear we could do as much or as little as we wished given the weather. We did opt for the hour trek to the waterfall - well worth the effort & drenching! We then dried off over lunch and made a few stops as we headed back to Christchurch. Very well organized and the small group made it very comfortable & flexible. - Gail S2 contributionsOur tour guide SUE SZABO picked us up before sunrise & took us to a Christchurch (CHch) overlook to watch the sun rise, hit the city, and "pink up" the distant mountains. She knew which scenic route to take leaving CHch for more great views. When she learned my interest in birding, she made several stops so I could do some photography. She has a wealth of knowledge about CHch and the area from CHch to Akaroa. We enjoyed a morning tea stop at a cozy restaurant/art gallery as well as a tasty lunch by the Akaroa Harbour. We hit the jackpot on our Dolphin watching cruise with a pair of Hector's dolphins obligingly appearing as well as albatrosses attending to our tour boat for many minutes. Then she introduced us to her pearl-selling friend, and now I have a snazzy new necklace! Sue is a very accommodating guide, and I hope you will get to enjoy her professional, informative service. We thoroughly enjoyed her company throughout the better part of a day. Her personal connection with the wineries made for a special experience as well. She had driven us from Queenstown the day prior and was truly a joy to spend time with. Mandy was knowledgeable and personable. - Erin R6 contributions5/5 review because David was fun, knowledgeable, efficient, and accommodating to requests. Especially driving Kate, our daughter, to bungee jump for the first time! It was fantastic! Sights are incredible the whole way… NZ is one of our favorites! - Hermeone_Lee27 contributionsDermot was highly professional and knowledgable. He was safety-conscious, and navigated the mountainous roads and one-lane tracks with ease. His vehicle was spacious, clean and comfortable. He knew the best places to eat, rest, take walks and snap good photographs. E.g. we stopped at Castle Hill, which looked exactly like a Lord of the Rings scene, although it was not the actual set. While he was a good conversationist as he drove, he also let us take naps when we needed it. He was accommodating towards our requests to tweak the itinerary, including last minute requests, like jet boating on the Waimakariri River.
