- milliesmum2016Christchurch, New Zealand1,809 contributionsCan't believe I haven't visited this charming little factory garden before. It was started in the 1930's when Mr Edmonds Baking Products factory was in its heyday. Actually, I can remember the factory from when I was a little girl. Yes, Yes, I know...…
It's really very lovely and the garden seats, probably lovingly made by a kind and clever volunteer, have the Sure To Rise logo as their back. The garden is maintained but volunteers these days but back in the day there was a paid and devoted gardener on the payroll.
You can drive right in and park behind the garden if you take the entrance off Ferry Road. Entry is free and it would be a truly lovely place to take a picnic.Written 3 November 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - MissMouse3331 contributionGethsemane Gardens really needs to be taken off the internet.
Upon arriving here we discovered the gates closed and padlocked. Now after reading reviews others have noted the same experience.
We have come quite a ways to visit so I’m very disappointed
At the very least there could be s notification sign on the gate, but nothing...Written 14 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - milliesmum2016Christchurch, New Zealand1,809 contributionsThese gardens are always worth a visit in October, November because the world reknown azaleas are flowering. They are the archival result of the work at the Ilam Homestead last century of Mr Loder, who developed an intensive breeding programme for Azalea's and many in the garden and elsewhere around the world, are named for the Ilam estate. But quite apart from that piece of gardening history, they're a delight to visit and to behold. I've left my run a bit late this year as they're nearly over but still smell gorgeous. Mental note to self and to others - visit in late October for the best display.
There is parking which you have to pay for - the university parking wardens are fierce - at the staff club which is housed in the very gracious old homestead building.Written 3 November 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Buster147London, UK7 contributionsWonderful garden and lovely staff who were very informative
