I am presuming this is the main art gallery in the centre of Christchurch (I live here and didn' know it was 'Robert McDougall Art Gallery"). New modern building - but I'm afraid the art isn't up to much. As it is in the city centre and near the botannical gardens, arts centre, museum and Cathedral Square then you could wizz round really quick (it's free). but nothing has inspired me yet.

First up - it does cost $25 to enter but by the time you've completed a tour of the facility, it barely seems like enough. What a wonderful concept made real - each room (living room, library has it's own collection. Download the free guide to your phone at reception. Heavy on NZ greats (Goldie/McCahon/Hodgkins etc) there are surprises in each room. The collection includes ancient Greek artefacts and both classical contemporary NZ artists and more. Seriously recommended.
