The International Antarctic Centre is on the outskirts of Christchurch, the largest city on New Zealand's South Island, There are lots of things to do; among the most interesting sights are the Blue Penguins. You can take a ride in the Hagglunds, which are all-terrain vehicles, used in Antartica. The International Antarctic Centre is well worth a visit; allow hal a day.

Very interesting indeed - but allow plenty of time to take it all in, especially the video interviews with people affected by the quakes. We thought two hours would be plenty but they had to ask us to leave after three hours, as they were closing!

There s plenty of exhibits which were easily viewable. Everton was well explored and it would take more than one visit to read it all. Our daughters who are young teens loved the place and had fun exploring. Would visit again.

This museum at Okains Bay is so remote it’s hard to believe the collection. For Americans, think of the Smithsonian collection of priceless pieces in someone’s garage, out in the country. Really, this collection should be in a National museum. The most amazing Māori collection displayed in the casual understated way, that makes it even more incredible

Well worth the drive and visit. The people who work there an d those in character of the era were knowledgeable and interactive. Was great to see ride the steam locomotive.
Parking was the biggest issue, but enjoyed the walk to the entry.

Well worth visiting if you are in Christchurch

Still partway through a major renovation and strengthening following the 2010/2011 quakes so some areas are still off limits. Yet to regain it's vibrant atmosphere but making good strides. The great hall is always worth a visit.

This provides good details of Rutherford's life beyond just the highlights. This budget-priced museum is small enough to fully explore in around an hour, which is great if you're still in the city center after a day of sightseeing and/or waiting for mealtime. You don't need to be a science/history nut to follow along with the exhibits, but it could help you understand some of the artifacts on display and let you better appreciate his accomplishments.

My grandson and I needed a couple of hours to see all the displays......many are works of love and passion which must have taken weeks and months to build. Thoroughly enjoyed it all. There is so much to reminisce over. Displayed beautifully. Make this a must see on your Christchurch visit, with or without the kids.

We had a few hours to burn at Christchurch airport and decided to visit Yaldhurst Museum of Transport and Science. Easy to find (with a large sign off the roundabout in Yaldhurst) we were welcomed and charged a very reasonable entry fee. A visit to the cafe was the first order of business and were pleasantly surprised with the good coffee and snacks. The museum consist of a number of buildings each with its own theme. The cars were the draw card for me and it was great to see a cool selection of classic cars. The farm machinery was interesting as was the small selection of military vehicles. Really enjoyable if you have a few hours to burn in Christchurch!

Deserves better then average to be honest 20 minutes and you have pretty much done it all. Have owned and ridden bikes in the 70s and 80s a bit of a nostalgia trip. Lots of bikes from around that era. If you know who Roger Freeth is or rode bikes 40 years ago worth going if you don't may not be for you.

We went for an interesting exhibition on the way the classical greeks and romans would eat. Especially nice how it is presented for kids.

I stopped when cycling down Riccarton Rd. when I saw this lovely wooden building.
There was a great photo exhibition with photos on NZ.
There is a small shop of chinese buddhist articles, books and paraphernalia.
    And a cafe.
