- Raman GNoida, India604 contributionsWe found Umesh Yadav, a good guide and driver. It was a good decision to take a private tour. We adjusted our stops basis the time available. Best, Umesh was not in a rush at all. He recommended a good Indian Restaurant at Sunmer Beach. Our last stop was the Air Force Museum. Surprisingly a good place to visit. As always, we did not have too much time here. Umesh stayed very close to the Museum. He asked us if we would like homemade Masala Chai. We immediately said Yes. It was so kind of him and sweet. While we saw the Museum, he went home and brought us a thermos of hot tea with 2 cups. Kim gave great explanation about Earthquake history and development of Christchurch since the quake. - Hermeone_Lee27 contributionsDermot was highly professional and knowledgable. He was safety-conscious, and navigated the mountainous roads and one-lane tracks with ease. His vehicle was spacious, clean and comfortable. He knew the best places to eat, rest, take walks and snap good photographs. E.g. we stopped at Castle Hill, which looked exactly like a Lord of the Rings scene, although it was not the actual set. While he was a good conversationist as he drove, he also let us take naps when we needed it. He was accommodating towards our requests to tweak the itinerary, including last minute requests, like jet boating on the Waimakariri River. Cook and Milford Sound. We loved the jet boating in Queenstown, the Gondola ride, and visiting Glowworm Caves in Te Anau.
Our guide made everything so easy. He gave us great hotel options before booking, and we stayed in 4- and 5-star hotels. The trip was very smooth, and the vehicle was always super clean, with plenty of snacks and bottled water for us everyday.
The best part was the cost was very reasonable for the experience we had. It was a perfect as we got plenty of time to relax and experience. His love and knowledge of Christchurch and the surrounding area was obvious. We saw beautiful scenery, incredible views, learned a lot about the 2011 earthquake and its impact on Christchurch, and even got a quick and fun lesson on Māori culture. Simon was easy to communicate with and responsive from booking to pickup. He was even able to adjust our tour on the fly to accommodate some last-minute shopping we wanted to do.
