Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Cultural and Nature display and War exhibit stand out as you first enter the Museum.
Those two exhibits alone can take almost 2 hours to complete, so plan to stay for 4 hours to get the full cultural environment. It was an experience worth the time.

What a great place, we saw a lot more wildlife than we expected to and the paths we in great condition. It was an easy walk for the whole family with lots of interesting things to keep the kids entertained. We saw giant Tuataras, Kaka, Tuis, and lots of other birds. It was really easy to get here as they had a free return shuttle running from the top of the cable car every hour.

As tourist attractions go, this is a relatively cheap way to enjoy a couple of hours in Wellington. The cable car takes you to the top of the summit where you can get some breath taking views of Wellington and the harbour. Plenty of spots to take those memory snaps, and a cafe awaits with some equally great views. The Cable Car Museum offers free entry and it is a short walk to the Space Place, and the Botanic Garden. The ride on the tram takes about 5 minutes to the top. Added bonus is a free souvenir from the gift shop at the bottom.

One can do a hiking trek to the top or simply drive and park at the summit area. Lovely 360 degree views from the top, even when the weather is not cooperating.

We got the cable car up then walked down through the botanic gardens, this made it a great day out for kids. Highlights were the playground, rose garden, and indoor garden. It was a really nice easy walk and the gardens were all in excellent condition.

The Interislander is a great way to travel between the North and South Islands. These are huge boats and you can even bring your own car. It’s about a three hour trip between Wellington and Picton. I tend to get a bit seasick, but not if I’m able to stand outside and enjoy the gorgeous views. I’ve seen plenty of seabirds, including an albatross, and dolphins following along side. I was in NZ in 2023 but didn’t take the Interislander this trip. I have a few times in past visits.

The only thing I can add to the outstanding review below is hiring a croc bike is a great fun way to explore the bay. Kids love it. Their advertised pricing is for winter only

A very interesting and different type of church. This is not massive masonry blocks with painted art works on the walls. It is a simple very old wooden church but with wonderful stain glass windows. It is majestic in it's own way.
Small entry fee, more a donation for the up keep. Street parking but not alot.
In Wellington not a far walk from the CBD.

The zoo team were amazing! Despite being a wet day, the team were engaging, welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. They went over and above for my boy who is tasmanian devil mad. He got shy and didn't ask all of his questions but loved hearing the ranger chat away to me all things devil. He loved seeing the keeper doing some training and the Keeper was amazing at explaining what he wa
s doing and why. The ranger talks with all of the animals was amazing. We learnt something at each talk about these beautiful animals who were clearly all very much loved and well cared for in lovely enclosures developed and tailored to their needs. A beautiful zoo and despite the wet weather, a fantastic day! Fir those from out of town, you can catch the bus to right outside!!

A museum that covers the nautical use of the harbour, old items of interest as well as Sci Fi.
A very interesting mix that was very interesting and good for kids from about 10 upwards.
Easy to find near the main wharf and 10 min walk from the CBD.

We thoroughly enjoyed our drive to this remote lighthouse. The scenery is beautiful and the drive itself is part of the adventure. The fur seals are an added delight, lying in the sun so close to the road. The climb up the steps to the lighthouse at the top of the hill is hard going but worth it for the view. A fantastic way to spend a couple of hours.

Really nice walk through the valley and the rock formations are really beautiful. Be aware that way there is just up, and walk through the “river” basin could be chalenging for someone. Lookout is really steep hill so be prepared for little hiking.

Spectacular coastal walk. Starting point carpark is about a 10-15 minute drive from Wellington Airport. Easy, largely flat, walking path that doubles as a 4 wheel drive trail. High hills/cliffs on one side and the wild ocean on the other. The shelter at the carpark has photos and history of the old quarry and historic baches that you pass on the walk.
