What travellers are saying
- Sivasankar SivapragasamPetaling Jaya, Malaysia62 contributionsI always come across Oriental Bay to Freyberg pool. It is beautiful and serene by feeling the wind. Overall, it is the best place to jog, walk, work out and swim at Freyberg pool.Written 8 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.

- LouichanTokyo, Japan215 contributionsWe took the ferry over from Wellington's waterfront. We wanted to get rental bikes and the main place to do so is the Bikeshed over in Pencarrow, about 3.5 kms away. You can take a bus from Day's Bay, but it is also possible to get cruiser bikes from the Boatshed near the Day's Bay Wharf. We did this, and had the option to swap them for mountain bikes once we reached the Bikeshed (same company). However, the cruiser bikes were comfortable and worked fine, so we just kept the same bikes and rode them all the way out to the Pencarrow Lighthouse and back. Then had lunch at the Chocolate Days Cafe and took the ferry back.Written 4 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.

- ogerkanNew York City, NY4,323 contributionsPart of the picturesque Marine Drive tour, Breaker Beach is a pretty cove with waves crashing all on the rocks. - Jason SMelbourne, Australia1,284 contributionsReally liked the atmosphere of this beach with the views the rocks and peacefulness I thinks it’s the best area that I visited while in Wellington.
It is windy but expect that in the Windy City.Written 9 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - jobst56Hamburg, Germany1,707 contributionsAs I'm not a beach person , I rather walked along the promenade.
Even though it was windy and not too warm, there were still a few hard-boiled guys in the water.Written 6 December 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - 529grahamrAuckland, New Zealand70 contributionsA splendid walk with views across the harbour. Some amazing homes to view perched high on the bush clad slopes and quaint houses on the shore line. Very characterful and picturesque. There is a small jetty and several sandy beaches and some rock pools to explore at low tides. A footpath winds around the shore just above the tide level.Written 10 April 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Chloe R16 contributionsI love this bay, it's dog friendly, and there's also a cafe near the bakery in the shops, after walking the dogs, stop by grab a coffee and their chocolate brownie, and talk about your day here in the bay.Written 30 August 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- MadshusCanberra, Australia1,279 contributionsI came out onto Houghton bay following my walk from Wellington CBD. It's a breezy spot with red rocks in the foreground. You can walk easily along the pedestrian footpath adjacent to the esplanade towards Island Bay. There are interesting houses to look at along the way too. Also a snorkelling spot.Written 5 December 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- 422ianaDunedin, New Zealand3,072 contributionsWalked down from the monument above the bay. There is good access to the water for boats with a ramp. There are no dogs allowed due the blue penguins nesting in the area. So if your lucky you may spot some.Written 24 November 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- YasminaB00Lier, Belgium73 contributionsWe went for u scuba dive here. The bay was beautiful, as are all the bays around the Miramar penisula! But in the water the visibility is terrible! Had fun though because there were lots a starfish (really big ones), small fish hiding between the stones, crabs and seahorses. The seahorses were really big! Fun place to go for a swim and to snorkel a bit!Written 30 April 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
