Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Interislander is a great way to travel between the North and South Islands. These are huge boats and you can even bring your own car. It’s about a three hour trip between Wellington and Picton. I tend to get a bit seasick, but not if I’m able to stand outside and enjoy the gorgeous views. I’ve seen plenty of seabirds, including an albatross, and dolphins following along side. I was in NZ in 2023 but didn’t take the Interislander this trip. I have a few times in past visits.

We used this ferry to visit Eastbourne for the day. The tickets were easy to purchase; there is a ticket office near the waterfront close to where the boat is. I found the staff onboard friendly and helpful.

WE had a little difficulty finding our way to the ferry port in Picton due to road works closing some roads but arrived fine and the checking in system was very quick. Then we had to wait some time to board due to an incident with a truck leaving the ferry on its arrival. Eventually, left about 30 minutes late but arrived more or less on time.
The ferry is not up to the standard of those on European routes, being clearly designed mainly for the freight traffic it carries. The lounge area was fine, and the food provided was OK if nothing special. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Booking online was fairly straight forward, and we felt the prices were probably pretty reasonable.
