Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- cptiger44Englewood, FL25 contributionsCultural and Nature display and War exhibit stand out as you first enter the Museum.
Those two exhibits alone can take almost 2 hours to complete, so plan to stay for 4 hours to get the full cultural environment. It was an experience worth the time.Written 10 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There are a number of unique war memorials including the red sandstone Australian and British oak and pohutukawa shelter. But for me the words of Ataturk on the Turkish memorial are perhaps the most moving. Don't miss the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior and the 'Man with the Donkey' sculpture up the stairs towards the Carillon. At the moment you'll only need 20-30 minutes to have a good look around the site. Well worth it if you find war memorials moving places.Written 13 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TWal1Canberra, Australia2,936 contributionsWe enjoyed visiting this small museum which is adjacent to the Cable Car station at the top of the line. The museum displays are very good and it tells the history of cable car transportation in Wellington. It is a rich history.Written 1 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Neil BAuckland, New Zealand1,496 contributionsAn important piece of NZ history. Carefully researched restoration of Mansfield's birthplace with an interesting outline of her life. A nice combination illustrating both the way of living for middle-class NZers around 1900 and the life of the famous author. We'll worth a look.
There's a great 'eye spy' activity sheet for the little ones, that's actually good fun for the grownups!Written 24 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The details of their years here, encompassing three generations, are well presented by a storyboard and a number of original objects made by William Wallis, the first settler; clearly a skilled carpenter. The guide on the day I visited, Lisa, was very knowledgeable and friendly - a definite asset to what is a charming little attraction. Well worth an hour of your time.Written 13 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- criochiLondon, UK100 contributionsWe had an amazing time there! This is a fan museum made by a fan for fans. You start with a little video about their journey through LOTR and then you get to dress your favourite character’s clothes. Kathy’s enthusiasm is contagious and even those who don’t care about LOTR will have an amazing experience.Written 4 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jamuel EWellington, New Zealand207 contributionsThis an amazing hidden gem. And it shouldn’t be so hidden it feels tucked away in a corner. That would be my only downside.
This is not a very big flashy exhibit but rather it is more an important one for anyone to visit to learn about one of NZ’s most important events in its history hence the 5 star review. It’s amazing to have these documents in wellington to look at and they have done well to tell the story and history around it. Can’t wait to be back to spend more time here.Written 8 November 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Entry is free and there is a good display of the history of currency. They even give you a bag of $1300 though it is shredded. A good experience and worth a visit.Written 16 May 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- cpcogSydney, Australia1,345 contributionsIt is a small museum. You can go there with some donation. There are a few old trams inside. I guess the most attractive part is riding on the tram runs between Queen Elisabeth park and whareroa beach. It is about 2km long! It costs $12 for unlimited rides. I wont say the view of the journey would be very special but the experience is rather niceWritten 5 April 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - FlexitravellerSingapore, Singapore26 contributionsThis is not a place you can visit without permission. Please seek permission or approval over phone / email if you are intend to visit in a non game day. One can donate optionally, I did because they stayed open just for me on the day of my visit. It is not just for the museum, but the whole Basin reserve ground view would be splendid if viewed from there. So please make a visit if you are a real cricket fan !Written 2 April 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MarvilleAuckland, New Zealand23 contributionsThis place is a gem! the moment you enter the shop, you'll be met with different scents to showcase Francesco's skills and love for his craft. He was very attentive and welcoming, he comes to all the customers and explains how to go around testing and smelling the perfumes. We loved the place and bought 2 perfumes. You can clearly tell he loves what he does and is very knowledgeable in his perfumery craft.Written 20 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
