Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We took the base walk and still can be steep for those with walking issues. There are places to stop and rest along the way. The views are magnificent.

The tour guides were great - very friendly, chatty and informative. They enhanced the tour experience - especially Leo with his stories and Maori legends. The kayaking was fairly basic but this was necessary as there was a wide range of skills in the group. The guides were thorough and ensured that safety measures were practised. It was a fun night and we all enjoyed ourselves

Beautiful beach and free to use. The waves are great for surfing. It is large enough to not be on top of others.
Only complaint would be no wash off point near the exit. There is one down the hill.
Water clean with plenty of shells

So we have been here twice! Once as a day visitor then we decided to camp!

    Day visit
Loads of parking, info point (not always open), toilets at the start!, map, and easy to follow paths all sign posted. So much wildlife e.g. ducks, geese. Beautiful lakeside tracks. It is truly a beauty! The waterfall in the park is a bit sad, but the actual big water fall (that people swim in a lot) is massive. But you cant really see it.

    Camping - DEC 24
We booked the day before through the government website ($50 for 2x adults a night isn't bad). When you arrive there is 1 sign saying campsites then no other signs for a while. We got a bit confused. There ate 3 different places to camp and it's first come first serve. No one to help you get to the right bit!! You basically just drive until you see 1 of the 3 names and then park and camp in the designated area.

We camped at Hamilton Point, a smaller field right by the lake. It was beautiful! Deffo recommend this spot! A few ducks came by too - so cute! There are free BBQS to use and toilets. But no showers. Anywhere. The website says there are so I think they're only at the bigger campsites... (which was super busy full of large families)

You can set up any time after 12pm, we were the last there and stay a max of 3 nights. A park ranger does come round and check cars Reg and will ask you if you have a booking. Other security cars drive around at night for a few hours too making sure everything's good. (There is cctv also). Toilets were warm, clean, had a light and loo roll!

The only complaint we had was that there were several large families staying who did not understand quiet hours (it states this on a sign!) And once we had gone to bed in our tent, they were loud, shined lights and kept asking us if we wanted food even after we had said no through the tent door! Very strange. Also the ducks made a lot of noise so if you're a light sleeper maybe try another field?

We saw some sunset paddlers and ducks go by. The walks around the lake so so peaceful with most people staying at the campsite.

Bonus - glow worms! More beautiful and special than a picture could show. Make sure its actually dark when you go - we went when it was still a bit light and they weren't out yet.

No matter how fit you are.. this is a winner walk around the base if Mount Maunganui.

    Allyou needs comfortable shoes.

Start off on the left hands ide overlooking the Bayside. You will have a choice to walk the main track or walk down to the beach below before coming back up.

Beautiful scenery with massive trees providing shade on sunny days.

Seating ares on the way around to take a break.

On the oceanside, you will have the rockpools. Depending on the tide, take a wander and explore this area for shells and climb the rocks.

The last part, you will see the waves crashing onto the main beach. Beautiful way to spend 30 mins of your day.

    Have fun.

Only short walk from carpark. Lots of stairs to see falls - still working on due heavy rain. Lots of tiers to these fall and you can walk on rocks to view falls

Stunning on a sunny day! Watch the rowers, families swimming and teenagers jumping off the pier. Stroll on the sidewalk, or watch the passengers coming and going from the cruise ships. Glorious views, and very calm and peaceful.

Cool sculpture if you’ve read the books and the playground right next to it is AWESOME and had something for kids of all ages. Our 4 and 6 year old could have spent all day there between the climbing, swinging, obstacle course and water works.

What a great short hike. Keep in mind there are a fair number of stairs but otherwise an easy walk for unique and breathtaking sites. The gorge is nearly indescribable and the mining ruins were a fun quirky find for our 19-24yr old kids. Only warning- parking fills extremely quickly in summer as many other NZ spots. We elected to walk a couple extra miles by parking at the next lot near the waterfall. The waterfall was ok but the walk on that whole portion wasn’t nearly as interesting as the Windows Walk.

This is a hilly experience and a lot of steps and paths but well worth the effort and for that amazing view over the bay and Tauranga itself!!!

Easy walk with nice views of the ocean, certain areas with the jagged rocks I wouldn't recommend, blow hole at very end but due to no swells only saw minimal water cascading from.

We have been to this hot pool twice and enjoyed ourselves both times. Compared to other pools like Wairakei or the Polynesian, this one is more swimming pool like and being associated with a campground I imagine it is more “family friendly “ although at both our visits the pool was quiet and we pretty much had it to ourselves. We liked the shade the surrounding trees provided and we liked the inflated pool noodles provided. The water comes from underground but is odourless and not too hot. The change facilities
    are fine.

Ye Olden town is a picturesque step back in time. Arrive there with an empty stomach and stuff yourself with treats from the onsite bakery. Duck into the record store and while away more time and leave with any genre of music you like. I left with a fossilised shark tooth from the gem store (type unknown). If you are in desperate need of a hair cut then the barber can sort your unruly locks. If you have an hour or two to spare, do yourself a favour.

Very nice place to visit for lunch. Outside seating so was a little chilly but blankets provided. Food was very nice. We didn’t try any of the ciders but lots of people were having the tasting paddles. The ordering is done by pushing the button on the table which we didn’t realise at first. Would recommend a visit.

Fabulous selection of farm animals and so many were free range. My daughter (3) absolutely loved feeding all the ducks and getting to pet the pig, horses, sheep and guinea pigs. Beautifully maintained park. Considering the number of animals it was exceptionally clean. Pixie the pig was a hit. If we are in Tauranga again we will definitely return.
