Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Julie HHavelock North, New Zealand139 contributionsWe had such a fun time renting stand up paddle boards at Pilot Bay Beach. I was travelling with 12 and 14 year olds who loved it. It’s in a great central location, close to the walking track at the Mount, cruise ships & public toilets.Written 8 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Nush7London, UK120 contributionsWe booked last minute and too late for the BOP kayaking and were offered the McLaren lake experience instead. I wasn't keen but we wanted to take in what was our first kayak experience so went ahead and booked.
Estelle and a colleague (so sorry i forgot your name) met as near the cafe and instantly made us comfortable and were clearly lovely people. As first timers we were given full instructions and practiced movements on land first, they were well-delivered and easy to follow and very thorough.
The lake setting was amazing, serene and picturesque. We had a lovely experience out on the lake and loved every minute. On the way, Estelle who is English but calls NZ home, shared some interesting information about the flora and fauna....NZ is such an amazing place. Then there was a short walk through the forest with more flora and fauna information, just to be clear, neither my husband nor I are into plants but this was interesting because Estelle shared info linked it to local culture.
At the end of our trip, Estelle suggested we visit Mt Manganui beach and helped us there leading the way. Even then, they were so helpful, waiting for us when we got separated in traffic a few times - it just shows how genuinely friendly they are! Thanks guys.Written 1 January 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Kopi was an excellent guide, very caring with my worried 7 year old. Really nice being with a small group, made it very personal and intimate. Kayaking wasn't too strenuous at all. It was so peaceful! Thank you!Written 21 April 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
