Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- CHop0407Bridgend, UK38 contributionsWalked here on our way down to Wellington from Rotorua. Was really busy at the start and we were lucky someone left a parking space as we drove in as people were driving for a while to park or parking away and walking down. We only walked along the main stretch of the falls which was beautiful as there are bigger walks in the region.Written 19 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Emma HParkwood, Australia48 contributionsThis was an easy drive from Taupo, well signed. The water release was worth the wait, with a number of view points to see. Walk to the viewing area was an easy track. A great free experienceWritten 19 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JaidaBrisbane, Australia10 contributionsScenes were beautiful. Easy to find as we just parked up, and followed the map sign. Very quiet as we arrived an hour before closing on a weekday. More so lukewarm water and mainly in the area near the bridge. This area is very shallow, so good to sit in and for little ones.Written 19 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jessica_nz2Christchurch, New Zealand225 contributionsAt 10 dollars per adult it was a pleasant hour stroll. The craters were cool with bursts of steam. Be sure to read the information signs, we learnt a lot. We visited Orakei Korako and Wai o Tapu parks on our trip, but I thought this added something we hadn't seen at either park. The park is hot however so be prepared for that in the heat of the summer.Written 30 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LivakiwiUpper Hutt, New Zealand51 contributionsWe went with my mom and niece that visit us from overseas and all of us enjoyed the trip very much.
This is an easy short trip that you can do with family and friends on a good sunny day. The cruise at 1.30pm include a short demonstration of trout fishing. We didn’t catch any, but it was still a nice experience which ended with the crew handing out samples of smoke trout fish from their previous trip.
If I may comment, the commentary (which was very interesting) was too loud inside the boat. Other than that, it’s highly recommended.Written 18 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The aioli dip for calamari is great, but the dip for the prawn needs a little tweak, so i decided to mix it together and it tasted better.
The service was fast even with many tables were occupied during lunch. The host (Rachael) was very accommodating and
Recommended to go for outside tables as you will have a view of the water from Huka falls as well the Huka jet.Written 24 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. So we continued to drive around the gardens looking for one; there was the occasional car parked at the side of the road, and the further we drove we realised that there were some positions, albeit limited in space where cars could be parked. So once you know the gardens, you could go straight to your favourite part and find the nearest ‘pull in’ then park and walk. So the gardens can accommodate quite a few cars, albeit the numbers will still be limited. Despite this aspect, the gardens are still worth a visit, especially at this time of year given that the rhododendrons and azaleas are spectacular, and there are even some camilla still in bloom. A gem but the lack of parking may put some people off; but well worth the effort.Written 30 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Shelley MAlbany, New Zealand915 contributionsWe took our grand sons for a lovely morning out. Animals are quite relaxed and kid friendly and boys enjoying feeding them. Love the large playground for kids to run around. Staff run through safety and layout with you as you enter. Good coffee too. We really enjoyed it. Lots of parking available and close to taupo. Love how it's so natural lots of trees. Best place in Taupo for young children to enjoy. Bring some wet wipes for your hands as they get slobbered on but that's all part of the experience.Written 3 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Quest58977850400Auckland, New Zealand5 contributionsWe booked 2 villas for 7 nights - accomodation is stunning and would give a 5 star however agree with a lot of the comments I have seen regarding servicing of the rooms / villas, our beds were not made once, I had to call reception twice and ask for our villa to be hoovered - bathrooms and kitchen floors not cleaned once …. I asked 3 times for clean bedding for my 3 yr old which I never got. I walked up to reception and complained in person - they sent someone down to Hoover and that was it? We expected the rooms to be serviced like at the many others resorts we have stayed at - cleaning of bathrooms, kitchen and toilets, making of beds, and serviced. You don’t go on holiday to wash floors etc and why we booked the villas which is meant to be the premium stay and not cheap.
I was on the fence on giving a 3 or 4 star rating.Written 20 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - vel042Auckland, New Zealand2 contributionsNice place with very nice food and coffee.
Away from the crowds in Taupo. The artwork is nice to look at but we didn't buy anything, too close to the need to downsize. The service is very good even on a busy day.
Our last visit was a few years ago but the cafe hasn't dropped it's standards.Written 3 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - GlennandTraceyGalway, Ireland19 contributionsLovely place, clean and presents well! If you are not a local and want to do laps in outdoor 25m while on holiday, BEWARE of the grumpy locals with their rude attitude to strangers in their lanes, RUDE!!!Written 21 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
