We went here in February 2024, even though Tripadvisor keeps showing the date as January. This is the 3rd time I have had to do this Review.
We selected the Experience Pass which was valid for 2 days and included a guided tour and a Cultural Performance. The guided tour provided headsets, so we were easily able to hear the tour guide at all times. Shane was very good and full of information which he explained clearly. The Cultural Performance was excellent and very well presented with photo opportunities with the performers afterwards.

Stunning Harbour. Easy to walk around and find what you need. A beautiful seaside town with character and lots to do. Amazing.

Hiking the trails around islands is a great thing to do in New Zealand -- try also Waiheke Island near Auckland (although that one can be very busy) and Quail Island near Christchurch. All three are reachable by nice ferry rides at reasonable prices; in the cae of Urupukapuka, it's about a 40-minute ride. There are many trials on Urupukapuka, but doing the circle island one is terrific. You can do it in 3 hours or so, depending on how long you stop at one of the beaches for a refreshing swim virtually alone even at the height of summer. On the hike, there is something beautiful to see at basically every turn in the trail. And when you get back to the ferry dock, there is a nice bistro with lots of brews on tap after the hike. A great day trip!

While visiting Paihia, my daughter and I both got facials and massages here. The pricing and quality of the services was perfect! It was a great location, and the studio itself had an amazing environment. Silvana was so quick to respond over our booking and very accommodating to all of our needs. The best place to go for massages and facials in Paihia!

Super experience. Would recommend everyone to do this. Very friendly staff, they explain everything in detail.
On their suggestion we changed our jumping height and THANK GOD we did that.
    Definitely go for it.
(I went much before 2023- I did not have the option to select the dates.)

This was such a fun trip. The captain, Sarah, was so funny and had so many great stories, and the crew person, Michelle, was so helpful and informative. The trip was so relaxing, and the scenery was beautiful. We spent two hours on the island of Moturua, which gave people the opportunity to snorkel, hike, paddle board, or just relax on the beach. I highly recommend this tour if you are in Bay of Islands.

Undertook this Salt Air Cape Reinga Half Day Tour from Paihai on 25 March 2024
Driven to Kerikeri airport in minivan, by a great driver - Jim.
At the airport we met our pilot for the trip – Johnathon.
OK, I admit it, to me (in my old age) Johnathon looked way too young to be in charge of flying anything other than a kite…..!!
    Oh boy, was I wrong.
This young man is a magician with an airplane.
He skillfully feathered our little plane up - firstly on a paved runway, then up and down upon a grass runway (which wasn’t flat!) and down upon a grass runway which was flat.
As we flew north, Johnathon piloted the plane to show us the myriad number of bays, scattered townships, farming lands, beaches (including the ‘ninety-mile beach’ (which, chuckle, is really only about 35 miles long!) plantations, the hills and flatlands.
At one stage we viewed a pod of Dolphins leaping with joyful abandon, relatively close to a deserted shore.
When flight came close to Cape Reinga, plane was abandoned for a minibus. Johnathon, with same skill shown during flight, drove us to Cape Reinga, then Tatouhou Bay, (where he delighted us with picnic of hot cuppa and muffin) then took us to Te Paki Sand Dunes, before driving us back to plane and undertaking the return flight to Kerikeri Airport - where once again the excellent driving skills of Jim delivered us back to Paihia.
Johnathon wasn’t just “pilot for the day”. To me, forevermore, he will be the “one in a million” pilot. His skill set is incredible.
    The day was fabulous.
One cannot go to NZ without:
    • Going to Cape Reinga to view the meeting of the Tasman Sea and Pacific Ocean and to watch their waters mingling,
    • Marveling at the tenacity of the Mauri sacred tree,
    • Walking around the Cape Reinga Lighthouse and its attendant Signpost.
This tour is most definitely not to be missed.
It was the highlight of my comprehensive tour of NZ from Stewart Island in the South, to Bay of Islands in the North. Toe to tip of NZ.
Go for it. You will not regret it.

Stunning day trip taking in the Bay of Islands with the Hole in The Rock, Otehei Bay and many other islands. Sighted dolphins and flying fish

Skipper Kate was a charming and very funny host in addition to showing of her skills to get us through the hole in choppy water was incredible

Great set of dives in a fantastic location. Did two dives, the first on the Rainbow Warrior wreck, the second in a nearby reef. Even with a bit of chop on the surface the visibility was good, with both sites offering plenty to see. The crew was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, with the dive master (Craig) providing a thorough dive briefing prior to both dives. I would note that this is a relatively deep dive (as mentioned in Pahia’s description of the site), so if you are uncertain about your skill level you should speak with the dive shop folks before signing up. Also, as space is limited on the dive boat, you will only be able to bring the minimum essentials with you and I would highly recommend bringing water, as they didn’t supply any.

If you are in the area and looking for a great diving experience I would highly recommend going out with the folks at the Pahia Dive Shop.

This is the fastest boat to the hole in the rock lasting only 90 mins. It was a fast paced adventure bump by bump over the waves. Great commentary from the skipper. Life jackets and shower protective coats provided. This was a fun trip but not for the faint hearted or frail!

Brilliant trip from start to finish. The skipper and crew were welcoming, friendly and brilliant at getting us confidant on the catamaran which enabled us to enjoy the day fully. We watched a pod of dolphins swimming and playing. We couldn't swim with them as they had a baby with its mother, but we watched for the allotted time. The information the crew were able to give us was brilliant. It made the most of the wildlife we encountered during the day. We moored off Motorua Island and were transferred to land by swimming or dinghy. The walk to the top of the Pa gave stunning 360 degree views of the Bay of Islands. Then back for a BBQ'd lunch on board before sailing back to Paihia. Fantastic. When we return to New Zealand we will look forward to sailing with Carino again. Thank you Vanessa and your crew.

Great fun, awesome crew on the boat and in office, laid back and fun, yet professional and felt totally safe at all times. Elliot was the man, he needs a pay rise… 👍😁

This trip takes about 10 hours. You get on the boat from Paihia Wharf.

The trip starts from Paihia Wharf and sails around Bay of Island with a stopover of 1 ½ hours at Otehei Bay. When we went it was raining quite consistent so we sought shelter with everyone else at Otehei Bay restaurant. This tour was my favourite out of all the tours we did in New Zealand, even with the rainy weather it was fantastic and I could only imagine with dry weather where it will be stunning.

Our captain, Mark and his lovely crew Libby and Courtney were absolutely fantastic, friendly and very helpful. Nothing was too hard and they ensured everyone was taken care of.

Weather: We did this trip in early December but temperatures were dropping to 10°C at night and during the day it goes up to 18°C. The locals have told us that summer in New Zealand starts in late January and temperatures do not go over 30°C.

Make sure to have a jacket and a cap.
