With a mixture of sightseeing, short hikes and snorkeling it was the perfect mix. We were picked up at our hotel in Paihia by Jim, and taken to the airport where we met our pilot, Mikhail hope I’ve spelt that correctly for the trip. After short but thorough safety briefing we were airborne and taking in stunning sights from the airplane as it cruised north toward Cape Reinga. Our pilot kept us updated with facts about the region we were flying over and then it was time to land. Having played “spot the runway” we touched down on a tiny grass strip perfectly. From here we were taken in a very comfortable minibus to see the lighthouse, a most beautiful beach where tea/coffee & refreshments were served, then on to some huge sand dunes where we watched as some brave/foolhardy souls slid down on boards.
The return flight took a different route showing even more of the beautiful scenery associated with this part of the North Island, culminating in a flight around the Bay of Islands before touching down at the airport.
We both thoroughly enjoyed this activity, it was extremely well managed from start to finish, our pilot was incredible, great commentary, very engaging and very skilful. The website describes it as a “must-do” neither of us would disagree with that statement. The staff were all really friendly and my sky diving instructor Prashant was very experienced and I felt safe jumping with him. He was also cracking some jokes on the way up to the attitude which helped with the nerves. There were new and experience divers along with us, snorkelers, and the guides adapted to absolutely everyone. It was an amazing experience in lovely places full of fish to see. - Tha W12 contributionsI booked this on a whim after reading about it in the lonely planet (I know right, retro AF) for the next day. There is something truly blissful about this wee trip out into the most gorgeous part of NZ I've seen so far. I think that the price range leaves you with a lush group of people as opposed to those who might be more used to chartering boats for weeks at a time and this led to a lovely mix on board. I was travelling on my own and was a little worried that it was mainly families but that was brand. The team are super attentive and chatty throughout. The activities are all super accessible and fun. The wine is cheap! Food was great and plentiful. But the relaxed atmosphere makes it in my opinion and I came off feeling so chilled. - Brent W1 contributionBig shout out to Nick at Moana Kayaks for his knowledge and expertise 👏🏼 he hires all of the gear you need to have a great day out in the bay!!! The past week I’ve spent 3 days out there rowing & went to the local Omana Winery lookouts and also rowed to the Haruru waterfalls, I must say I’ve had some some great adventures, today I decided to hire a Bike for a change and spent a few hours exploring the Waitangi bike track .it’s a 15-20 minute ride to the track . This is a must ‘do adventure when you are visiting the bay of islands

On our last day of holidays in NZ I agreed to book in a trip for just him and I. Despite a few moments where I felt Bucko was being a little abrupt and ‘short’ with his instructions, we both had an amazing experience (he wasn’t aware my son was on the spectrum). There were plenty of boats out fishing, but it became apparent quite quickly that nobody was having much luck on this particular day. However! Bucko showed his local knowledge time after time. He knew the good spots but also knew when to pull up and move. He didn’t just sit and wait for hours like it seemed many of the other charters did. All up my son pulled in a pretty decent kingfish and lost a serious whopper to a shark. He also got 2 other fish that he thought were pretty great. Our trip was supposed to be only four hours but we ended up spending more than six out on the water. Bucko even went over for us to see the dolphins he spotted that were playing in the water on our way back to the jetty. My son will remember this day for the rest of his life. Upon realizing one of my son is throwing a tantrum, the ladies took rein of the situation. So he could still finish the ride and didn't disrupt us. Thank you ladies.
