Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Always a great visit and getting better year after year. Beautifully maintained. Very knowledgeable guide, although in all honesty some of her comments were a tad provocative. The cultural performance was excellent including a nice bit of humour. A must for any international tourist and for any New Zealander who hasn't already been.

We loved it! Stayed at Busby Manor. Highly recommended. Visited Russell via the car ferry, had the most delicious lunch at The Duke of Edinburgh and visit the printing museum as well as the Russell Museum . So informative. KeriKeri market on the Saturday is a must as well as the Parrot Place. Hururu Falls a short walk and beautiful. Lovely walks on the beach every day . Sadly we missed the hole in the wall boat trip but it remains on our bucket list. Worth it!

Hiking the trails around islands is a great thing to do in New Zealand -- try also Waiheke Island near Auckland (although that one can be very busy) and Quail Island near Christchurch. All three are reachable by nice ferry rides at reasonable prices; in the cae of Urupukapuka, it's about a 40-minute ride. There are many trials on Urupukapuka, but doing the circle island one is terrific. You can do it in 3 hours or so, depending on how long you stop at one of the beaches for a refreshing swim virtually alone even at the height of summer. On the hike, there is something beautiful to see at basically every turn in the trail. And when you get back to the ferry dock, there is a nice bistro with lots of brews on tap after the hike. A great day trip!

Right in the heart of this little town, directly to the left where cruise shuttle drops off/picks up.
Sells ferry tickets and can help you book other independent tours.
    Free wifi but slow

A great day out - beautiful trip and island time. Luke and Carmel took care of everything, including taking your shoes on-shore!

Fantastic day! We booked the Super Cruise Including Hole in the Rock from Paihia. Captain Prince Marty was very knowledgeable about all the islands and was incredibly passionate throughout the whole trip he really does enjoy his job and this makes for an extra fun voyage! Luck and his expertise meant we got to see a pod of dolphins on the way to Otehei Bay and a pod on the return journey. 🐬🐬 We also got to see a Marlin & a solo blue penguin. Conditions were great and we were lucky enough to pass through the Hole in the Rock which was very exciting. Thank you also to crew members Ella & Vinny for looking after us and sharing your enthusiasm for the Bay of Islands.

I was a bit apprehensive about a 4.5 hour cruise however it was extremely comfortable, informative and professionally run! With a mixture of sightseeing, short hikes and snorkeling it was the perfect mix. Please don't have any reservations about booking with this tour company they are first class!

This is the fastest boat to the hole in the rock lasting only 90 mins. It was a fast paced adventure bump by bump over the waves. Great commentary from the skipper. Life jackets and shower protective coats provided. This was a fun trip but not for the faint hearted or frail!

I booked this on a whim after reading about it in the lonely planet (I know right, retro AF) for the next day. There is something truly blissful about this wee trip out into the most gorgeous part of NZ I've seen so far. I think that the price range leaves you with a lush group of people as opposed to those who might be more used to chartering boats for weeks at a time and this led to a lovely mix on board. I was travelling on my own and was a little worried that it was mainly families but that was brand. The team are super attentive and chatty throughout. The activities are all super accessible and fun. The wine is cheap! Food was great and plentiful. But the relaxed atmosphere makes it in my opinion and I came off feeling so chilled. Might have to apply for a job! Thanks everyone

Brilliant trip from start to finish. The skipper and crew were welcoming, friendly and brilliant at getting us confidant on the catamaran which enabled us to enjoy the day fully. We watched a pod of dolphins swimming and playing. We couldn't swim with them as they had a baby with its mother, but we watched for the allotted time. The information the crew were able to give us was brilliant. It made the most of the wildlife we encountered during the day. We moored off Motorua Island and were transferred to land by swimming or dinghy. The walk to the top of the Pa gave stunning 360 degree views of the Bay of Islands. Then back for a BBQ'd lunch on board before sailing back to Paihia. Fantastic. When we return to New Zealand we will look forward to sailing with Carino again. Thank you Vanessa and your crew.

We booked the 3-hour trip to the Hole in the Rock, with Rich as guide. Turned out to be 3½ hours in total with plenty of time for extra adventures: not only once, but twice we sailed through the Hole and visited the big cave next to it as well. Lots of fish out there plus seals sunbathing between Cape Brett and the island next to it. Thanks a lot, Rich and good luck with your business!

Nice and friendly guides, wonderful experience and very supportive guys who ran the tour. Changed the schedule in time because of low tide.
