This day trip was very enjoyable, The scenic drive, seeing the countryside which was lovely. Our driver/guide Matt was excellent, his knowledge of NZ was very informative & he was very helpful with guidance & photos. The boat cruise was awesome, stopping at a beautiful beach for a leisurely lunch then back around the coast. A great day!

In only his 6th week as a tour guide, Paul proved himself an exceptional pro who could juggle a very late start into an eventful day that still covered all the highlights. We visited Maori Brandon at the Kawiti glow worm caves where we heard the legends of the caves. After a meat pie and ginger beer lunch in Kerikeri, we walked among the soaring Kauri trees in the Puketi rain forest. A quick stop at the Makana chocolate store was coupled with a visit to a woodcarver's shop.
Back on the road, we visited the old stone store (first in NZ) and the Haruru Falls. There we saw the NZ Christmas tree that bears bright red flowers during the holidays. Throughout the day, Paul kept us entertained with tales of the Kiwi culture and beautiful countryside. Our journey ended at the site of the Waitangi Treaty grounds where Britain and Maori signed an agreement in 1840.

I highly recommend this tour company and this tour. The day we went was pouring rain in the morning, but our guide called gave us an opportunity to reschedule. We elected to go ahead and our guide did everything he could to give us a great experience in spite of the weather. We were unable to see the Hole in the Rock because of choppy water, and the glow worm cave was flooded, but he arranged for us to take a ferry to Russell and tour this beautiful town with great views of the Bay of Islands. The Māori Treaty Grounds Cultural Tour was very interesting. The weather cooperated in the afternoon, and he also took us to see a beautiful waterfall which was not usually on the tour. He even stopped at a hardware store for me to look for a needed item I had forgotten to pack. He was so kind and gracious, and made our day a great experience. You won’t be disappointed with this tour, or this company.

Excellent glow worm cave tour. Loved the fact it was old kiwi styled operation and staff did everything from booking , making coffee and tour guide. Banter was casual and good hearted.
    Would definitely recommend

My wife and I were on an organized tour of New Zealand. This Bay of Islands Highlights tour was one of our included activities that we could choose in Paihia. We got to see and experience a lot during our 5-hour bus tour. Our van drive Dyson was informative and entertaining. The van included both people from our tour and people from a cruise ship in port. My only complaint is that the back row of the 16-passenger van was too cramped with 4 people in it.

Rather than drive hours to the Waitomo Glowworm Caves when we were in Rotorua later on our organized tour, we got to visit the nearby Kawiti Glow Worm Cave here and experience the glowing "worms" (actually maggots). The van stopped at the Puketi Kauri forest and we got to do a self-guided tour. My tour guide had told us that we would do wine tasting on this tour, but Dyson wasn't aware of that. However, he was able to add a visit and tasting at the Ake Ake Winery; several in our group purchased wine to take with us. I liked the winery and what they were serving. We stopped in Kerikeri for lunch (on our own).

We also visited the Makana Chocolate Factory (tasty samples), The Kauri (Wood) Workshop, the Haruru Waterfalls, and we stopped at a golf course with a view of Bay of Islands. It was an enjoyable trip.

During lockdown my mind was going back & forward trying to decide if I should book a Backyard Roadies Tour. I was sick of looking at my same four walls for months but scared to go on a tour not knowing anyone.

‘New Year New Me’ I set myself a goal to make this my year for travelling and booked the first Far North Tour for 2022 just one week prior. I was soo nervous to go alone and by the end of the first day it had already turned out to be the best thing that happened to me thus far, I was glad I chose to go solo. From strangers to friends to family in just one day!

I have already booked my next tour to Abel Tasman and have at least another one, if not two tours lined up for this year. If your like me and keep standing in your own damn way all the time, it’s time for you to step aside and see how amazing this experience really is…I promise you won’t regret it!

The tour was just amazing. The sun was out, skies were blue and we were surrounded by the beautiful Pacific Ocean. With the “Motus” as landscape everything looked picture-perfect!
Our Cheeky driver/tour guide, Lance, was very kind, polite and entertaining. We enjoyed his many stories about the history of the land, it’s people and their customs.
    Yes...I’d do it again!
