- FarAway048118579225 contributionsYou could experience different cultures through gardens which are all amazing. Entry is free so recommend getting an audio tour device for $4. We went there in winter so we didn’t see much blossoms, still an eye-opening experience.

Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Rabih SSydney16 contributionsThis trip takes about 11 hours. We were picked up at 6:30am and were dropped off back at the hotel by 5:30pm. A bit of a long day but not too bad.
The trip starts from Auckland to Waitomo Caves which took about 2 ½ to 3 hours. The trip from Waitomo Caves to Rotorua took about 3 hours.
Our driver from Auckland & Beyond Tours, Jason was a responsible driver, professional and he was very patient. I normally tip the drivers as you can appreciate the long driving they have to do and keep focused on the road.
The only suggestion I would like to point out to Auckland & Beyond Tours is that if they can stop every 100 minutes (1 hour and 40 minutes) as this will give the passengers some opportunity to shake their legs and get some fresh air.
Weather: We were in Rotorua and Waitomo Caves in early December but temperatures were dropping to 10°C at night and during the day it goes up to 18°C. The locals have told us that summer in New Zealand starts in late January and temperatures do not go over 30°C.

The grounds men do a smashing job keeping all these beautiful gardens so fresh.
