Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- magus_31Sydney, Australia123 contributionsGreat views of the city and the surrounds. Parking is a bit problematical as the parking at the base of the crater is closed. However, worth the visit and the quick drive from the CBD.Written 28 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - bktx1Texas646 contributionsThis was an excellent museum. Part of it profiled the Māori history and culture, part profiled the development of Auckland , and part was the story of the world wars for NZ. It was extremely informative and well done.Written 22 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Sam MSanta Clarita, CA21 contributionsI saw the great reviews, so I had to book a tour. It was great. The Island, hike , and the tour guides were wonderful. My wife and I were the only 2 on our tour. Our guide was extremely informative and pointed out all the birds and interesting facts. I would highly recommend going if you are in Auckland a few days. The guide is only an additional $10 and well worth it.Written 15 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AlishaAuckland, New Zealand8 contributionsPair of tigers, deers, sambals, hippos are all phenomenal to watch. Penguin enclosure is nicely done up. But cudnt enjoy watching them since they don't allow to stand and observe peacefully. It's felt like we were in Mumbai local trains wherein the push and shove actions were plentiful. U enter yourself but u exit on the crowds push & flow. Hardly cud click pictures It was that quick and smooth.Written 18 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MumbaiRidersMumbai, India1,870 contributionsRangitoto Island is a volcanic island in the Hauraki Gulf near Auckland. The 5.5 km wide island is a symmetrical shield volcano cone capped by central scoria cones, reaching a height of 260 m(850 ft).Emerging unexpectedly from the sea some 600 years ago, it is the youngest and largest volcano of the 48 Dormant volcanoes in the Auckland volcanic field.Rangitoto means 'Bloody sky' in Maori language and is thought to refer to the serious injury of a Maori chief during a battle on the island. Roads and tracks allow visitors to walk over lava fields and through lava caves (tubes left behind by the passage of liquid lava). It is densely forested with tree's and on arrival at the jetty realized that this island was excellent for trekking to the peak through forested pathways. It has the largest forest of Pohutukawa trees in the World, a indigenous tree of New Zealand. Rangitoto is approximately a 30 minutes ferry journey from Auckland Port with the ferry having a stop-over at Devonport .Written 22 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The museum is surprisingly interesting and sensational value for money.
Definitely worth the time.
We finished with a good coffee in the foyer.

There are farm animals to see (cows and sheep) which is nice for children and adults alike. There's a little cottage to see inside.Written 3 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Jessica M34 contributionsWalked up here with our 16 and 9 yr old on a recent stay in Auckland. 9 yr old commented thanks for talking me in to this idea I never would have thought it’d be so pretty. Awesome walk, dog friendly and definitely the prettiest part of Auckland I’ve visited so far :)Written 14 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MouzourisDetroit, MI2,098 contributionsWe had time to kill in Auckland so we decided to drive there based on the reviews. Parking was kind of pain to find but not a big deal. We had lunch and ice cream and walked around. A lot of shops and restaurants. Not really impressive as people talking about it. Maybe at night time for drinks with the skyline at the background but it was just ok for us. If you have time to kill I would go but I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit if not a lot of time in Auckland.Written 9 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Anonymous855Trabuco Canyon, California1,736 contributionsLoved the day we spent here...even got a little lost and didn't mind at all. The cafe in Wintergarden is delightful with seating outside next to the pond. We are walkers so it was a treasure. Took the bus here and back to our hotel. Great value and experience!Written 26 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- SouthSeasAmericanLuganville, Vanuatu336 contributionsWe went to the Beach on a rainy Saturday morning on Waitangi weekend. It was not raining when we arrived, but only a few cars were in the parking lot. We walked along the Waitakere River down to the beach and turned toward the large sea cave at the other end of the beach. When we were about two-thirds of the way there, it began to rain. The wind was blowing in from the Tasman Sea, causing the rain to fall sideways. My right side was soaked and my left side was relatively dry. The beauty of it was that we had the beach all to ourselves for at least a half hour, and it never was crowded. The sea cave was amazing for its large size. The daylight penetrates all the way to the back. The sandy floor was damp, but the cave was relatively dry at low tide. We waited inside until the rain sqalls passed. Then we explored the other sea cave, which is not as wide or high but just as deep. I was able to walk upright for all but the last few meters, where I crawled into the darkness until the passage became too small to navigate. Back outside, we explored tide pools full of small crabs and prawns. We were never tempted to swim in the dangerous surf, but we did wade into the shallows as we walked back down the beach. We also waded up a small stream and explored its canyon. By the time we made it back to the river, the wind had picked up and was pelting us with the fine volcanic black sand, but then we left. We spent about three hours at the beach. It was fabulous.Written 5 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. On the 29th of April, I called to inquire about any available tickets. While they initially had none, the staff were happy to take my contact details and promised to call me if any cancellations occurred.
The following day, on the 30th, I called again and was pleased to learn that they had my details ready and assured me they would keep me informed. Around 6 PM that day, I received an enthusiastic call from a team member who was delighted to inform me that tickets had become available due to a cancellation.
Thanks to their excellent service, I had the opportunity to see one of the most amazing shows ever. The concert was stunning, with a beautiful display. However, what truly stood out was the outstanding customer service. The staff were always happy, willing to help, and went above and beyond to ensure a great experience.
I highly recommend visiting Auckland Stardome Observatory. Their dedication to customer satisfaction is truly commendable.
